2024 WNBA Discussion Thread

I didn't see any of the games after the first half of the Aces game. But I heard Jordy did a really good job on Clark the second half of the Storm's win over the Fever, will have to go back and watch today. Jordy had a rough shooting night 2-9, but had 5 pts. 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Started and played 32 mins. Mercedes played 17 mins and didn't score, but had 3 reb, 3 steals, and 2 assists. The Storm continues to roll.

In the Aces/Sky game, I see that after a miserable first half, Angel got her double double in the second half in their loss. As expected, Wilson dominated her. But the gift of letting a rookie play thru is immeasurable. Wish other coaches felt the same way.

Clark put up 15/6/7 and 1 block but still is a little loose with ball 6 turnovers.
Yes Horston made Clark work hard for what she got. Jewell Lloyd scored 34 I believe for the Storm.

Reese bad first half was mainly because the refs took her out of her game with those phantom foul calls. But I already knew that was going to happen anyway, even with that she had a decent game. She takes the challenge every night to guard the best players in the league, no other rookie is going that.

I counted last night. She had 5 assists that were blown by her teammates either not finishing an open layup or not catching an easy pass for an open score.

She had 1 forced turnover of a Diggins steal.

Just noticed that Horston leads the league in steal percentage/steals per 40 minutes. Pretty cool!

She's also improved her 2pt. shooting % from 39% last year to 54% this year (jump from the 9th percentile all the way up to the 81st percentile).

She has improved massively, I’m very proud of her, really rounding into a quality player. If she can continue to improve offensively she will be a core player for years to come.

As they say, it totally changed the narrative. From Reese shut down to Reese ties CP3 for most consecutive double-double games. But credit to AR for bouncing back in the 2nd as well.

Unexpectedly close game with the Sun ahead of the Dream by 2 at halftime. On any given night.

Sparks play at Phoenix later tonight on ION. They're very shorthanded, Lexie Brown is out until after the Olympic break and Clarendon is out tonight. Upside of that is maybe it will force Curt to let his rookie play more. Rae may get the start, both should get plenty of pt.

New lineup w Steph Talbot but still Rickea rather than Rae. Not starting Li or Egbo against Griner is interesting. Hell what do they have to lose.

Please just don’t make me watch DT and Sophie go off again like last time they played.

Tarausi is lighting it up,

Man alive! Copper is eating Rickea's lunch these last couple of minutes! Of course, she's pretty much having her way with the entire league this season, so I'm not down on RJ over this.

Serious question. Could Kahlea Copper be the most dynamic scorer in the league this season, by far? Just seems to me every time I see her she's making opponents look silly.

Just a great, fearless attacker/scorer. Wow.

Yes. She’s hit another level, super fun to watch. I think Candace had a lot to do with improving her confidence when they were in Chicago together. She was always complimenting her.

Copper's just too damn unpredictable for defenders. No matter what the defense decides to do she has already found another way to beat them.

Hopefully it was a good learning experience on D for Rickea and Rae. They played pretty decent D on some of those buckets. Copper is just a world class finisher. The lack of D on BG was a big problem too. Going with a smaller lineup looked good until BG finally got going w the big mismatch late. BG seems really slow and plodding to me, but was just too big for Hamby.

RIckea's stat line ended up looking good - 14 pts on 6-10 shooting, 2-3 fm 3, 6 rebs, 2 asst, 1 steal, 2 t.o.s. Truthfully half those points came late after the game was decided but that's ok bc good luck like that almost never happens to her. Went far too long without getting any shots up, Sparks guards were on chuck it up mode McDonald, Cooke and Nurse going a combined 8-26. But there wa no quick hook tonight for RJ, she played almost 30 mins. She was much more active and involved and if luck padded the stats, so be it.

Rae only got about 11 mins, subbing for Rickea. She had 4 pts, 2 reb, a steal, an assist and did actually block Copper at one pt. Of course Copper got the rebound and scored but whatever. I wish Rae and Rickea's good games weren't always at each other's expense.

Sparks next play Tuesday against the equally hapless and undermanned Mystics. Realistic chance to actually get a win.
