2024 WNBA Discussion Thread

Magic Johnson is the new Vol Daddy of the west coast. Speaking of Daddies, the Lakers are expected to draft Brony James in the late rounds today, fulfilling LeBron's dream of playing w his son. Along w new coach JJ Reddick, DK is joining lots of drama around the Lakers.

DK fell quite a bit in the draft to #17, oddly supposedly bc at 23 he's "too old" for a rookie. Rickea is also 23 but apparently that's an ok WNBA rookie age.

Lakers should not do that. Whole situation is weird. Bronny should not be drafted over anyone who deserves an actual spot.

It isn’t a family business (except for Jeanie’s lol). If your kid can play, great, let’s do it. But Bronny does not have the qualifications to be a professional basketball player.

Sometimes falling isn't always a bad thing, especially in Dalton's case. Being able to play with LeBron and AD on a team that needs what he does well.

Totally agree. Not only is it a Taurasi type priviledge move that deprives another more deserving player, but Brony seems just embarrassed about the whole thing. He's not NBA material and he knows it, has tried to play all this down the whole time. LeBron is not doing his kid any favors at all.

Jordy's Seattle Storm plays Indy Fever and you know who at 10 tonight on Amazon Prime.

The Sky play the Aces tonight and Angel, in spite of the notoriously low GPA, is no dummy. She's been slathering the praise on Aja Wilson all week. That's also on Amazon at 7.

I too would praise A’ja in hopes that she won’t produce some humiliating “Welcome to the League, Rook” clip of me.

Looking forward to Jordy’s game tho! (And, I’ve realized I’m alone in this here, look forward to watching the Sun/DiJonai play as well 👀)

Narcissist gonna narcissist.

I agree that Bronny just seems a little lost in it. This is something LeBron is acting like is about his son, but as per usual, it’s about him.

He wants to be the first to actively play with his kid. If he had wanted Bronny to have an actual career he might have gone about it differently.

Like Dell Curry.

Facts, there are a lot of things about the decisions Bronny has made that shows it was never him making the decisions for himself but more of his dad making the decisions for him and that sucks. I think he (Bronny) would've benefited from at least 1 or 2 more seasons in college (or in a professional league overseas)

Without a doubt, even if for the education alone. Get a degree in finance, the kid is going to inherit a boatload of money. Maybe try to set him up for success instead of using him as a pawn in your own weird glory games.

Forcing this is also setting up Bronny for a level of scrutiny and criticism that is beyond brutal. Espec when it's obvious he's not quite up to NBA level of play. Very little chance this ends well, which is why poor Bronny has been reluctant all along. Apparently no one has the guts to step up and tell the emperor he has no clothes.

Angel mostly talks trash during the game. Why be afraid of another player anyway.

Indiana play Seattle tonight. After two Sundays in a row of "race wars" between Chicago and Indiana, it switches up to a straight versus lesbian war as Indiana takes on Phoenix.

I don’t think he’ll ever actually see the floor. There is just no way. Other than a few garbage minutes but even then, there are other, more deserving players of those minutes.

Also freaks me out a little how adamant LeBron is that Bronny tries to play basketball at the highest level after it almost killed him. Just feels unsafe and unwise.

If I were an NBA GM participating in the draft I would MUCH prefer a 23-year-old to an 18- or 19-year-old any day. The difference in maturity can be huge with just three or four years.

Maybe I'm wrong and every one of those teens picked ahead of Knecht are in the gym just as often and for as long as he is, getting better. But I doubt it.

Knecht was already showing higher-than-average maturity and drive by signing with Tennessee for the reasons he did, while some others seemed, to me, to be more focused on making Tik Toks and getting followers.

He's a first rounder, and could end up being the steal of the draft.

That is what the Lakers are saying.

From an News report on the draft:

Knecht slipped in the draft because of age and defensive concerns, according to league sources. At 23, Knecht is old for a first-round prospect, hypothetically limiting his long-term upside. That also theoretically puts more pressure on him to contribute right away, as there isn’t the same grace period compared to if he were 19 or 20. The Lakers aren’t concerned with Knecht’s age, though, as they believe the chip he carries on his shoulder and his slipping in the draft will drive him to continue to improve

Seems like the NBA has become enamored with French teenagers in recent years. Landing with Lakers could be a real silver lining. The story goes to note how the Lakers are comparing him to JJ Reddick, now the lakers coach, and the Lakers are desperate for an outside shooting threat.

Playing with LeBron and AD, and getting first round money, on a team that is only one or two pieces from being a contender, is not the worse to thing happen to someone

NBA drafts 18 and 19 year old players because of the upside and growth of their play in 3 or 4 years. According to some Dalton has hit his ceiling.

Out of 30 picks last night there was only 6 up Upperclassmen. When NBA goes back to letting high school kids go straight to draft then there will be even less Upperclassmen in 1st round.

Anyone know what’s up with Natasha Howard? She’s always been such a quality player and this year she is just off. I know she’s had some minor injury stuff?

Other than Aja Wilson, the Aces are flat, listless, and dgaf. They've been that way all season. It was supposed to be bc their pg was out but she's back and they're still just awful. Becky Hammon has not had them ready to play all season. Feel bad for Wilson, maybe she needs to have another tearful presser.

Meanwhile, Chennedy Carter is incredible. And the totally inconsistent Mabry is on one tonight, so far.

25-21 Sky end of 1st qtr.

Broken foot.

Wilson and Stokes have taken Cardoso and Reese almost completely out of the game in the first half.
Wilson has 23 while Cardoso and Reese have a combined 4 points (in 24 minutes played) at halftime.
Las Vegas up by 7 at the half.

Why Dallas ever ran Sims off to begin with is beyond me. She’s probably the second best player on that team. Immediately improved them and got the W over an excellent Minnesota team. Minny had a hard time with sims not having any film to plan with from this season.

Angel sees an Iowa player and just can’t help herself.

Gustafson makes a basketball play and Reese whacks her in the stomach. Plus the big push off from Angel to start the play.
