2025 Recruiting

Seems her plan is to scholarship in basketball and play the first season totally dedicated to that sport. This gives her a chance to learn the system and get acclimated to the practices and that schedule. Then she can determine going into her sophomore season if she wants to walk on and try volleyball. Only way it would even make sense as JMO basketball is much more complex to learn than volleyball. Plus she verballed to her basketball visit so it seems to me volleyball is her secondary sport at least at this time. She could probably do it play both, but would have to miss some practices and games in both sports in November and December. Coaches of both sports have already said that she would be given the opportunity if she desires so all we can do is see how it plays out.
NCAA scholarship rules are changing beginning with the 2025 season.

So what you are saying is since she is signing basketball scholly she is prohibited by NCAA in also playing on the Volleyball team ?
For the first year, yes.

Again, a student-athlete counts against the scholarship limit of the first team they are on a roster for in each academic year. So if she were to be on the volleyball roster in any academic year, even just to practice, she would count against the volleyball limit and they do not have a scholarship available. The exception would be if she participates in volleyball spring practice/spring matches after basketball season concludes. If she then continued with volleyball in the fall, she would move to their scholarship number and would technically be a walk-on in hoops.

The wild card here is the new NCAA roster limit rule that begins next year as part of the settlement of the house case. Volleyball rosters will have a maximum size that is smaller than the current average roster is. And everyone counts against it, no matter what time of year they participate. That would mean volleyball would have to hold a roster spot against their limit for her on the chance that she might play. So would basketball. I think that makes it significantly less likely that it is even attempted once that rule change goes into effect next summer. The new rules were not written with the idea that someone would try to be on two rosters at one time. It brings up an interesting question as to whether that will even be allowed going forward because every person on the roster is slated to be on full scholarship starting next year.

I’m thinking OU that’s where I’d be going if I were her.

Oklahoma is interesting though. I went to college there and Okies BLEED for either OU or OkState and the hate runs deep lol. If she and her family are OkState fans it would be very tough for her to choose OU.
She chose Kansas. They have a great class for 2025.

Since 2008 by the numbers.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say the 2025 LV class could arguably be the best high school recruiting class we’ve ever seen in the transfer portal and NIL era for any P4 school in WBB.

I’ve never seen a HS recruiting class where every prospect fits the team system and are Top 50 recruits in the ESPN Top 100.

In 7 months on the job, Coach Caldwell and her lead recruiters Coach Lazo and Coach Tubner have proven to be elite recruiters.

Just remember a recruiting class doesnt mean anything except on paper.. you still have to have to play and play well. That being said, i like our chances.. We just need to get 1 or 2 impact PF's/Centers to help Latham

Reactions: Vols14!
Full article here.

View attachment 699393ESPN has Civil rated to low if they do an update we should see her move upward. I'd put her up with any of our higher rated recruits as well as any of LSU recruits in ability and athleticism. She will come in rated 32 and play more like top 10 just has that kind of talent.

I don’t count that class because only 1 of them finished their career at UT.

Yes, good class when it was signed on paper but Rennia is the only one who panned out for the Lady Vols in the end. Disaster of epic proportions really.
Agreed that class was a disaster.

The discussion was signed class. We have no idea how many of the 2025 will finish as LVs either. 😉
