2025 Recruiting

Thinking more in terms of post defense and rebounding. Some other teams will definitely have bigs hanging around the post.
I was answering an offensive question…. I don’t think height is a big worry at this time. If Tennessee starts Spearman, Latham, Whitehorn, Cooper…. we are already bigger than half of the final four…. LSU’s posts were just 6’3 and 6’1 and had little issues with post defense or rebounding. We do need to bring on some more transfers to give us depth at those positions.

I envision our posts wearing out other teams tall players. They aren’t going to enjoy chasing us the whole game. On defense… we will pressure the ball to make the entry pass harder to make and further out on the floor. I can’t wait to see all the wrinkles kim adds to this team.

I guess my worry is being one dimensional. Also how often we're defaulting to the thought that we're always going to control tempo. I like options and some versitility. That said, I'm pretty sure the staff is working on getting some tall players who can run and jump. There's alot more of them out there now.

Oh Gosh if you’re worried about one dimensional, buckle up.

This will be the single MOST dimensional team we have had since 2008.

Me too. That's one of the reasons I hope we can get some true posts and stop making 4s play post out of emergency need.

4s are generally considered post defenders, Grant Williams for example.

Who was the last really good 4 for the LVs? I'm having trouble coming up with it. We used to have so many in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Hurst is listed as a 6'2" wing by Hoopgurlz, but a 6'3" power forward by MaxPreps and 247 Sports. Anyone know whether she's projected to be more of a wing or a post in college? Or maybe like a Latham type?
Hurst is what you call a positionless player. She is 6'3 long, rangy, can shoot the three, plays every position on the floor at some point in the game. She has pretty good handles, rebounds well, and plays the 5 majority of the time, but that's out of necessity because lack of size on Cleveland High's roster. I would say in college she would play wing/forward. I don't see her playing the 5 in college. If that's the case we are in trouble as far as having bangers inside. That's not her game. She is a finesse player

Candace Parker.

That’s it, she’s the last one. We haven’t had a truly good forward on BOTH ends since Candace.

Oh how I long to return to being a contender for #1 players.

Who is suddenly recruiting so well at Texas Tech? They have been perennially awful for years.

Did they come into a pile of oil NIL money or something? They have been in on some big names recently which is odd.

Gerlich has been there 4 seasons now and has a .47 winning percentage. I fail to see how that is a draw for players like Chavez.

I assume for Chavez the draw is mostly proximity to home?

Of course they can. Could in 2023 or 2003. But doesn't mean random fans should be engaging them in recruiting talk, IMO best to not engage them at all. Imagine your a businessperson, esp a new one, working on a huge deal that rests largely on communication. Then some random yahoo keeps chiming in, representing themselves as representative of your company. Just no. Every word is too important.

Also, in this particular case, repeated contact, or attempts at contact, with players and recruits has been a more serious issue, one that previous staffs have felt compelled to warn against.

TX Tech has had good NIL money since basically the start of NIL. Plus players really like the coach.

I like big time competitors that actually get it done, she doesn’t put up empty stats, she actually wins Championships and that’s what I value. When it comes to Nil, this is the player u break the bank for. It will be difficult getting her away from LSU, but we can get it done. View attachment 661054

Program changing talent right there. Love the power off hand dribble.

Not sure what makes you think that. I'd wager that more players have transferred out of Texas Tech and away from coach Krista Gerlich in her 4 seasons leading that program than all but a handful of P5 conference schools.
