2025 Transfer Portal Thread

I'm a believer in playing the guy most likely to help you win. If it's JG, you play him. If it's ZZ, you play him. But I honestly don't think this year's players will get a fifth year. I know people love speculating about it, but my feeling is if it does get passed, it'll only apply to players going forward. This year's players won't get grandfathered in. But that's JMO.

Will they be lots of lawsuits if they happens?

The logistics and consequences of granting the 5th year in the summer instead of in March or April will be utter chaos. Rosters will be set. Decisions on futures already made. NIL budgets spent. It's hard to wrap my head around.

I think the likelihood is that they pass it this summer but make it applicable only for the 25-6 Seniors and all classes going forward....

No different than if it were planned to be a disruption.

Not to mention “Free Bargo!”

How could it work with Gill and ZZ both on the team? Would Gill be ok at the 2 and if we get Rice would he be at the 3? I don’t think those guys are ok with not starting and CRG already told Gill he has the keys to the team
I think with Gillespie coming in, having ZZ back would create issues unless it’s been addressed with both prior to G signing. Now Gainey, I would pick him out of the 3 to come back because he became a very good 2 and we need that and he’s good to be a 6th man. He would be the better fit of the 3. Mashack as a role player would be good. I love ZZ but how do you fit him and G unless G is ok to play some 2?
I think Barnes has enough integrity to do right by both guys. Gillespie, especially, would have to be ok with it. Now, Barnes would sell the idea using K. Chandler and ZZ as freshmen as the blueprint for how they can make it work and coexist while also noting that Gillespie would have the primary role in 2026-27 in his fifth year.

I've always been of the opinion that you can't have enough PGs, especially if those guys are team players. The trouble with not taking ZZ back if he's allowed a fifth year is that someone else will. Imagine him landing at Auburn, Bama, UK, or Florida. That would suck.

The hearing on final approval for 15 scholarships/paying players directly started 20 minutes ago. We'll see if the judge changes her mind after she granted preliminary approval in October.

Wonder if the 1.3 mil is accurate we paid for Carey (going by on3)

They reported 1.5 for Gillespie, which seemed to be accurate….right?
I've heard a little north of $1.5 for Gillespie, but that's in the neighborhood. Somewhere between 1.5 and 2.

I've not heard a number on Carey, but that sounds awfully pricey to me for his actual production and skill set.

That the evaluation thing they put or what someone actually reported?

Whatever the Nil evaluation is they put under the class.

They had 1.5 for Gillespie on it, which seemed to be pretty accurate or in the ballpark from what we heard, correct?

It changed to 2.8 this morning once they added Carey, so I was just asking if 1.3 was remotely accurate.

I could’ve swore I seen something involving that number with Carey on X, but can’t find it anymore.

I was literally just curious.

Yea I wouldn’t pay attention to that, that’s them using that same tool that attached a value to every single player, some guys get more and some less, I definitely don’t think Carey got that, probably closer to half.

No different than if it were planned to be a disruption. I suppose anyone who has leaked info from the NCAA is receiving preferential treatment, which is the standard behavior of the NCAA.

Free Berto.

Dalton Bargo has been playing.

This is my dream scenario roster right now... (I know it's not particularly likely):

PG: Gillespie / Boswell / Henderson
SG/Wing: Rice / Gainey / Evans
SG/Wing: Ament (more of a 3/4) / Atwell
PF: Carey / Phillips
C: Okpara / Estrella / Brown

I almost prefer Freeman over Ament only because we will have him at minimal 2 years opposed to just 1 with Ament, unless Freeman makes some sort of unreal jump.

100% but how successful would those be and would they even be resolved in time
Strong chance they'd be granted a temporary injunction as most any athlete could prove direct/immediate financial harm if they tried to exclude them. This would likely mean 6 figures for hundreds or even thousands of athletes they'd try to exclude.
