Not every recruit. Just the ones UT is also after. When it's Pearl vs Barnes, I'm not wild about our chances. I can hear the pitch from pearl pointing out all our transfers because Barnes is so bad to play for. Anytime we battle AU for a recruit in any sport save baseball, I do a cup check.

I myself prefer to avoid cup checks

I am NOT worried about ... the farther this drags out ... nor am I saying that I think he is a lock to come here. I will leave it at that.

That’s the way I feel, but I don’t know to be honest. I certainly don’t like every day that passes and he hasn’t committed to us yet or we haven’t heard any good news. Makes me think he is going somewhere else

He probably is going elsewhere but our season doesn’t hinge on him, plenty of talent that we are going after in the portal

I believe this is the case. Just like in football, I am guessing there are discussions with Spyre about how much we are willing to pay. We had the money to pay the DT, Walter Nolen. But I don’t think the football staff believed in making a huge investment. It’s been stated from people who know that all UT programs have an ideal student athlete they are looking for. Of course, they want great talent, but they also want good kids, hard workers, and kids who don’t just use money as the motivation. If they are good kids and work hard, then the money is the product of their efforts. JMO.

The potential starting QB who has to stay in college for a minimum of 3 years is potentially worth way more than almost any basketball recruit from a marketability standpoint unless they are Zion, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, etc. Just more visible. Even then if you get it right, the basketball player is only here for one year and we all know most on these boards don't watch the NBA so there isn't much chance to continue to build their brand in Knoxville.

On a side note, Nico appears to be a pretty marketable kid in general. I know it was all about football, but he seems to have the charisma and different look that makes him stand out in general. Which helps get a return on that investment especially if he ends up elite at his position.

If he is looking for another "strong *** offer" and I do not see that happening.
