'22 SC SF Julian Phillips (Tennessee commit)

Kinda ridiculous. Auburn's class looked pedestrian a couple weeks ago now they'll get Traroe and likely will land 2 of Phillips/BHH/Broome.

Son of a biscuit. Can we get auburn out of this league. I'm so sick and losing recruiting battles to them....in every stinking sport save baseball.

They have excellent recruiters. From the article I read about Smith and Kessler joining Auburn, Wes Flanagan and Steven Pearl are really good at being very detailed of how the recruit will fit their style of play. Then Auburn lets the players basically play organized street ball on the offensive side as long as you play tough defense and rebound. He gives them freedom on offense. Telling a young recruit they have the freedom to shoot coming in is going to make them think very hard about coming. Have Phillips took any other visits? There are still some top players in the portal.

Did he say that? I thought he just liked a post that said as of today it’s FSU/Tennessee battle with Tennessee having the slight edge?

He hasn’t said anything. But, he typically doesn’t say anything till the guy is about to commit. The fact he liked your post is enough for me to believe we’re going to land him. He was waaaaaaay out in front of all the Pruitt stuff before it happened.

From what I heard previously, his family had specific requests about type/structure/size of NIL deal. As of yesterday, the staff had a heavy shift in enthusiasm because of something new/material that Spyre offered. They think he’s ours, and that due to the relationship and the NIL, Auburn will not be able to sway him. I'm one step removed from the source, but heard from someone close that they are very optimistic as of yesterday.

This and the @99vawl “like” is enough for me. VOL. 🍊 🍊

I’ll ask, I have a pretty solid Spyre source…that wow where my previous comments of the ball being in “our” court had came from, we were pretty much told what it would take to get him and to this point had not. That would be good news obviously.

My friend texted me to say that Spyre made a “new and material change to the offer, which made staff optimistic”. The combination of his relationship with Traore, and Auburn getting a last minute visit makes my stomach hurt, but my friend said they won’t have time to match what we’ve offered. He also said this will be done by next week.

I would think Auburn already has a NIL package presentation lined up for him to hear on his visit, would be surprising if they didn’t imo. I don’t ever feel good going against Auburn, fingers crossed though.

Still baffles me how Auburn has the financial support to get top recruits. They aren’t the state’s flagship university. They are in the middle of nowhere. They only can draw 9K fans to home games. Do they have some billionaire donor who throws them crazy money? Their best advantage is proximity to Atlanta and the dawgs program sucking

Bruce knows how to sell/get donations…if you’re saying on average you need $2m/year for basketball NIL recruiting class that’s really not that much if you think about it, and yes pretty small amount for just a few donors to come up with. It’s not as if Auburn football is a huge attraction right now, so most donors are probably pretty willing to throw into hoops.

I understand your point, it just seems that UT and several other programs should be able to raise more whatever the number?

Well when UT is dumping $8m into a QB alone that kind of shrinks your pool pretty quick. Tennessee has a really good NIL going but they’re trying to bring football back and that isn’t cheap.
