'22 TX CG Cason Wallace

I bet his timeline gets pushed back now. I would be surprised if he still does something in August with this offer just now coming in.

Nobody will be surprised by this, but I’ve heard UK was making individual pitches to kids with projections on NIL earnings after Peach Jam. It’s going to be hard for kids to say no when they guarantee a big boy salary to play ball. I’m afraid the arms race is on. Right now I don’t know how they’re being so bold so soon, but I assume it’s Lexington boosters with local businesses who we’re ready for the law change. Have to assume Wallace got this treatment too. UK usually knows where they stand before they offer. Not good.

Because he has been wanting a Kentucky offer and he might not care about the slow play. He probably is just happy it came.

Meh.

If I’m Barnes, I’d be reminding him that he’s been a top priority since the beginning.

We know Barnes is capable of beating Cal on the court as well.

I’m not saying we’re out of it, just saying those emojis were clearly happy ones and not ones throwing shade. He has been wanting this offer. I doubt the slow play will mean UK can’t make up ground.

At some point, you guys have to put your emotions and orange-colored glasses aside and realize that Kentucky basketball is the holy grail of college basketball. An offer from them carries weight with 95% of kids (or more) across the country. You can throw shade at them and at Cal all you want, but it won't matter to a kid like Wallace. These kids want the prestige of knowing the greatest program in NCAA history wants them and the attention that comes with that.

I won't be at all surprised to see us lose out on Wallace now that he has that offer. I've said that since the beginning when it was down to them and us, even without an offer. I said then that it was pretty telling. It is what it is, unfortunately. Kentucky is Kentucky and we aren't. If we lose out, move on to the next guy. Kentucky can't get them all, and we want the guys that want to be at Tennessee.

This is a great example of where the boosters will now control the recruiting boards. He knows this is upping the ante with UT and increasing his value. Do we need to get in these bidding wars?

This is something I hadn't thought much about. Essentially boosters could have another way to get kids in the fold. I think it is illegal to pay for anything for a kid if you have donated to the university. That should be easy to spot, but it could start getting messy.

“Mild success”? Wasn’t Bruce Almighty 0-7 in the second half of his TN tenure versus KY? 3-10 overall?
His point is that the overriding theme amongst some posters is that Kentucky is suddenly a nothing burger across the college basketball landscape because we've had some head-to-head success against them, recently. And he's right. We have some posters who want to pretend that Kentucky is no threat on the court or on the recruiting trail, and that is simply foolish.
