23 Class

Better strike while the iron is hot, IMO. THIS class needs an UPGRADE asap! 6th in the SEC is not where the #1 team in the country should land. Anything less than top 3 in the SEC come signing day is a huge disappointment. Sorry folks won't like it, but it is the truth. However... CJH and staff has achieved a #1 ranking with average SEC talent and depth, so... it may not matter. Why not make it easier on yourself?

I actually think the talent in the 2023 class is top 3 in the SEC caliber even if that's not what the recruiting rankings say. I know people say this all the time but I think several of our commits are highly underrated. In particular I think CB Ricky Gibson has 1st round NFL talent and he was a low 4-star. I like our other DB commits as well. Think their talent is very underrated. Then we have two high 4-star edge rushers with elite length and potential. They could both easily be the 2 best edge rushers in this entire recruiting cycle a couple of years down the road.

We have a really good class this year despite what the class rankings say. I wouldn't be too upset. Also we'll soon be getting as many 5-stars as Alabama and Georgia. Changing perception doesn't happen overnight.

Saban year 1--- 5-7 with loss to ul Monroe. Top 2 recruiting classes for 15 yrs. Gonna take time, but Saban turned it around light speed. Our recruiting needs to increase significantly!

He was already on board before we were the talk of the town. Point of post is, that becoming the talk of the town hasn’t lead to any major flips
I think people were expecting something similar to what happened after Texas ATM beat Bama last year to happen with our recruiting. There are a few factors as to why that hasn't happened. First off, it's well known now that ATM definitely paid for all those five stars. That's something this staff isn't willing to do and it has worked out terribly for them. Half that class or more are likely to be in the portal. Secondly, our numbers are tight. The coaches would have to ask several really good, loyal commits to look elsewhere in order to make room for multiple flips. I don't think they're willing to do that either. They are recruiting players that fit specific profiles anyway. Not just because guys are highly rated. They've been working on these '24 and '25 kids since they arrived. Now that the proof is in the pudding, those should be marquee (top 7) type classes.

I think it is critical for Tn to be at least a 10-2 next season. We want Tn to come back to be a perineal power house team., not just a one year wonder. We have the attention of the 24 and 25 class, but to build a sustainable future we need to demonstrate that it is going to be there in the future. 3 good recruiting seasons are necessary to build the kind of depth to be able to sustain the kind of quality we will need to “ be back”. To get those recruits you have to perform on the field over that span of time.
I think this coach can make this happen. I’ll let myself out!
Agree I myself am interested to see the route he goes at qb.I know most including myself consider it to be Milton but he's not exactly performed well enuff when giving numerous opportunities to hang your hat on recruiting and sustaining that 10-2 record u speak of.

If Nico can get in early and gain some weight I could def see him challenging.Jackson isn't a slouch and was Heupels first guy so interesting to see that play out.You got Milton who is very likeable and a great leader and stuck around. He looks and says all u would want but I'm still scared of risking everything on his back.I know he threw a few pretty passes agajnst Fcs teams but can he lead the tesn like Hooker just did at Bama??Seriously does Heupel trust him with 8 secs left?🤷‍♂️

Man im glad i dont have to make those decisions alot rides on that move.Ideally Milton knows the offense and should steal the show,Nico should redshirt and Jackson is an unknown.Whole point is would Heupel go after a portal qb cause ur absoutely correct sustaining this success is paramount to building the future

What was this #1 team ranked in recruiting 3&4 years ago? And how many of the top players from them classes are gone?
Exactly! It doesn’t matter.

Where did you hear this? Tennessee is not making cuts to the recruiting budget. That is just wrong.

... Bad times a comin?

You're funny, dude. Long Live The Legion of the Miserable.

I’m not sure ratings are the Gospel. Look at A&M. They had the best class ever, but it’s full of kids going after NIL money. I would rather have good athletes (which we have in this class), that buy in, and are coachable. This staff has the ability to make kids better unlike the last few.

For those that follow recruiting more, it doesn’t seem like our success is having much effect on the 23 class. Honestly, it doesn’t concern me because of our culture and coaching, but should we more an uptick in talent in the 24 class ?

The 23 class was largely complete by the time we started having all this success. It probably is helping us close out Hobbs. But yes, for 24 and going forward, the success will have a huge impact.

This class looks solid to me, and like someone already said there are some vastly under rated prospects committed to us. One example of this is Telander at linebacker. Just look at the ground he covers, side line to side line in a hurry. All he needs to do is put on a few pounds. Super athletic, and looks like he runs about a 4.5 in the forty.

We’re #1 in the country with 5 ranked wins including beating FL and Bama already. Sprinkle in a road win vs a ranked LSU team.

We’re already back. Kick your feet up and enjoy the ride. Vols have their next NC head coach.

Hay is pretty much, and has been, in the barn in the 23 class. Still a few players to keep an eye on, but for the most part this class is already done. Those left won't decide until later after the season.

The 24 class is seeing a big impact from this season. Transfer portal probably will as well this winter.

Honestly these days you just need to be in or around the top 10 in recruiting then get some transfer portal help. With the new Era of transfer portals long as your top 15 or even top 20 you'll do well. Every team will lose some of those guys then will also have a chance to balance out your team with transfers. It's crazy what college football has become.

Ok. Who’d you rather be now, A&M or UT?

Obviously TN, but they just showed a stat during the A'M/Fla game and Tex A'M has played 22 true FR and 13 have started. They did come within a few yds of beating Ala. When you play that many True FR and have had to start games with your 3rd String QB you will struggle. Not defending A'M but it is what it is. Hopefully we won't ever be in that position, but we definitely have gone thru the same thing.

Our success on the field is going a looooong way to probably landing the top player left on our board, and one of the top uncommitted prospects in the nation; soooo...

According to Rivals A&M was #6 overall in 2020, #7 overall in 2021 and #1 in 2022, so I guess being 6,7 overall in 20,21 wasn’t all it’s cracked up to be if they’re starting 13 true freshman this year.
Just saying recruiting well matters big time, rankings don’t!
There is a difference in the 2.
