3 5 stars - so sad

The product is the sum of the coaching, add it up.
You right. But at some point the coaches can’t be the only ones taking responsibility. I am sure that the coaches don’t teach them to turn the ball over or shoot 12% from 3’s. The coaches can do whatever they want but when the lights come on it’s time for the players to man up and use the tools they are taught.

They might be classified as high school 5-stars, but they are all unlikely to have more than a cup of coffee in the NBA.
What? Two of the five stars lead the team in scoring... Bailey, Pons, and Viscovi had terrible games

Very, very overrated and frankly a pathetic team! They have played inconsistent all year and their just bad! F’ing BAD!!!!!!!
Havent seen anyone mention it but i think its funny that a team picked to finish preseson number 1 in their conference ( us ) got beat in the firs round of the ncaa tournament by a team picked to finish last in their preseason conference ( oregon state.) Bad coaching job this year, really no way to defend it... I remember last year everyone was saying just deal with this crappy team because next years team is what barnes is all about and he is going to make it worth it to us for the big contract.... They would have egg on their face if these guys were ever man enough to admit how wrong ( yet again) they were.

It’s hard to stomach that we have two lottery picks on this team. No one on this roster played like a first round draft pick this season let alone a lottery pick. Crazy that we’re going to watch two Vols get picked on draft night who essentially did nothing most of the season. What a colossal failure this year has been.
Define nothing? Keon and Springer were both huge for this teams success..

5 million reasons it is on Barnes to put a product on the floor better than what we have witnessed this year. I like Barnes, seems down to earth and genuine guy, his record speaks for itself, but the team he fielded this year just wasn’t good and had 3 5 stars, it’s on him

lol such a bad take without Barnes where would this program be? I guess according to some fans we should be competing for final fours every year because of our illustrious history of Tennessee basketball suggests so🙄

not sure I agree with that (or anybody blaming KJ or JS for this year or this game)

I'd say these are decent stat lines for freshman, and it got both of them on the SEC All-freshman team.

All-Freshman Team
Joshua Primo, Alabama
Moses Moody, Arkansas
Sharife Cooper, Auburn
KD Johnson, Georgia
Isaiah Jackson, Kentucky
Cameron Thomas, LSU
Keon Johnson, Tennessee
Jaden Springer, Tennessee

2021 SEC Men's Basketball Awards Announced

I think the bigger problem is that both of the freshman led the team in scoring. Fulk was not nearly himself this year (averaged 9.5 PPG compared to 13.7 PPG last year) and we don't really have any other decent bigs (Plavsic/Nkamhoua/Anosike each averaged less than 2.5 PPG). Add in that we're not a great outside shooting team (note that springer led the team in 3 point percentage), we were going to struggle in the half court offense without our one good big guy playing (and unfortunately we did)

And what success are you referring to? 4th place in the SEC. 1 SEC tournament win and a blowout loss in the NCAA to a 12-seed picked last in their conference? Wow. Wish my boss at work was as easy to please as this fanbase sometimes.

People keep bringing up his salary but fail to mention Tennessee’s history in basketball as if we are some blue blood that has an illustrious history of ncaa dominance to back up their opinions, so dumb...without Barnes we most likely would be a doormat program aside from Pearl or Mears who has Tennessee hired that is better in their history?

Don Devoe was right up there also.

Grant sure is making a pretty good living only playing about 12-15 minutes a game off the bench. Remember Lonzo ball that shoots 30% from free throw line but is making a pretty good living also. Being drafted in the first round and being average is worth a lot more than staying in college for an “education”.

Time will tell...

This was not the year to have 5 star freshmen. Practically no practice time and no way to properly implement them into your system. Also we badly need some skilled post players and some leaders. You can’t depend on the freshmen being the leaders. That’s on Pons. He is too athletic of a player to only have 4 points in a game. He should average 15+ easily. I love his athleticism but he is a horrible offensive player. A+ rim protection and leaping ability but D- offensive game. I’m sure he will find a spot somewhere in the NBA because he can jump out the gym but that will only take him so far. I hope he develops a shot for his sake.

I can't see him playing pro hoops outside of Europe,Israel,Japan,China or Australia

We were the Jekyll/Hyde of the NCAA this year. We just never knew which one was going to show up. Today it was Mr. Hyde.

Well i would offer this as a reply, If history is everything why do we suck so bad now in football? I mean hear me out because i see this lame response posted alot. Having a very good history as a football school has not magically saved us from being a complete laughing stock for years in football, so why then should the fact that historically we are average in basketball magically keep us from being any more than that? Its a loser mentality pure and simple. Im not advocating for Barnes to be fired, ive said as much in other posts. I am somewhat tired of always hearing about how we should be happy to have mediocre or below mediocre teams in football and basketball because what more should we expect? I get we arent supposed to win championships every year in every sport but come on man the crap show this university has been now for the past decade in most important sports, we shouldnt expect better? with the money and facilities and support we shouldnt expect better? We are paying a guy elite money to be elite...I see the argument that we cant do better and who cares what he makes. Well your right it isnt my money but for that price tag with the facilities and support you should absolutely expect better at some point. this is why I have refrained from posting for so long. It just does not matter how bad we perform and in what sport there are always those who just flock to make excuses.

What? Historically we were average as in not even making the tournament now we are almost every year with Barnes and you are saying we are still average? Do you see how your outlook is wrong there?

I guess not man, I think we just have a different opinion of what average is...I do not think the last 2 years have been better than average for us. Average is what i would call it....last year is hard to say because of covid so no tournament but we had a barely above 500 average...then this year we were supposed to be stellar and had a semi decent record in reg season, once again didnt win the sec tournament and then completely embarressed ourselves in the big dance. My position has always been that in college basketball its a tournament sport. Barnes has been at best average in tournaments. I would be just as ok with not making the tournament as i would be flaming out hard in the first round of the tournament. Everyone has their own markers for what is good and not good so if you goals arent the same as mine that is fine. I just dont like the argument about how we are historically average so how can you expect more because again we are historically very good in football but that hasnt saved us from being a laughing stock for years their. Heck Florida wasnt good in football or basketball until basically the mid 90's ( their history sucked) and now they have multiple national championships in both. You can change the norm, and in fact Tennessee made the commitment to do just that in basketball by paying Barnes top 5, elite money. Barnes has come nohwhere near producing.

Yea but no one wants to talk about the past. Everyone talking about present time. And present time Barnes team has made it further than Coach K and had better record.

Well, right now the Oregon St guy got his team further than Barnes did so I guess that makes him better than both, according to your logic.
