3 5 stars - so sad

Barnes is having less post season success than Don Devoe who was fired and Jerry Green who was fired. But the point is, you acted like Tennessee has never won before Barnes and should be thankful to just make the tournament and lose in round 1.
Lol we actually have UT fans that compare Barnes to Devoe... provide facts with that statement to back it up sir

This is why im starting to believe my own tinfoil hat theory about many posters on here being UT plants. In any sport there are so many that just expect you to be thrilled with crap results, its uncanny.
You are picking the wrong side to be on if you think that guys argument holds any water lol

Apparently the one and done experiment with 5 stars is not the way to go. I would rather have 4 stars that have a lot of potential and keep them for 3+ years. Its called building a team instead of rebuilding every year.
Did the freshman shoot like Bailey, viscovi and Pons today? Nice argument

DeVoe won the SEC Tournament here. DeVoe went to the NCAA tournament 6 times in 11 seasons. DeVoe went to the sweet 16. So he won a post season tournament here. He went to the NCAAT more frequently than Barnes. 55 percent of the time vs 50, and has advanced as far as Barnes in the NCAAT. We apparently have UT fans here who weren't around or don't remember Tennessee playing pretty well under Devoe for his first 6 seasons. He even got fired after losing in the first round of his last season.

Lol he won the Sec tournament like that matters in basketball. Still the fact you are comparing don devoe to Barnes just a hilariously bad take

And after we fired Devoe, we didn’t go to the tournament for almost a decade...

Your bad take got exposed and you doubled down on it. DeVoe's early teams would have schooled this team by 25 points. P.S. winning the SEC tournament is a big deal. Winning any post season tournament is a big deal.

So if winning the sec tournament doesnt matter then what does? what is your specific set of criteria to being a good head coach in ncaa basketball?

That's an extremely terrible take. Last season was played fully expecting a tournament and we had 0.5 chance of making it and any honest person will readily admit that.
You can’t just assume we wouldn’t have made it last year. We could’ve gone on a run in Nashville. They beat UK at Rupp just a week before.

Devoe won his SECT by winning just 2 games due to the double bye. The first win was versus an Auburn team with a losing record playing their 3rd game in 3 days. The championship game was TN’s 2nd game versus KY playing their 4th game in 4 days. KY also knocked the SEC regular season champion out of the SECT so TN didn’t have to beat LSU.

We had Alabama in the first round, whom we never beat anyway, we weren't good, and were playing in a tournament we haven't won in nearly 50 years. But sure, we were going to go on a run.

We beat Bama in Tuscaloosa last year.

Math is hard. Facts are truth.

You're dealing in neither good math or proper facts. As I stated, Rick Barnes has made the tournament in 50 percent of his seasons here. 3 of 6. Devoe did it in 6 of 11. A higher percentage of Devoe's season here ended in the NCAA tournament than Barnes' seasons to date. Simple fact, hard truth.

The fact that you are unable to comprehend is that there have been 5 NCAATs and Barnes took TN to 3 of them. 60%.

the coaches at Duke and Kentucky have won 10 times the more meaningful games than Barnes has won.....he ain’t nothing but a middle of the road coach and has waisted more talent year in and year out
Guess Kentucky hasn’t wasted talent either have they with all those NBA recruits and one and dines every year!

I comprehend it just fine. But the season played out last year just like any other and Barnes team wasn't remotely going to be selected for the tournament. It's not like the season was cancelled in January. The season was complete sans our yearly flame out in the SECT and maybe an NIT bid. People using this excuse are extremely lame and are being dishonest. It will be like Duke claiming it's NCAA streak is still intact because they shut down for Covid this year. They weren't making it and neither was Tennessee last year. Also none of that changes the fact that Devoe has better post season success here than Barnes. Not Devoe getting a double bye in the SEC T, none of that. Getting a double bye is a great thing because it mean Tennessee was rolling in the regular season too. The success difference is even more glaring if you compare the first 6 seasons of each coach. Devoe made the tournament his first 5 years here and the field was 40-48 while he was doing it. So the poster who said it was laughable to compare Barnes to Devoe at Tennessee was right, Devoe was actually much better at this point in his Tennessee career than Barnes has been.
