30 for 30 "Steve Bartman: Catching Hell"

Over 100 posts and only one or two people have mentioned Alex Gonzalez.

tbh I didn't really remember it that well either. Same goes for the series of events leading up to the Buckner error. Just like football- one play doesn't really decide a game no matter how much it sticks out

Well I don't disagree. I think many vol fans get too wrapped up and would have acted the same. It's pitiful. However, it happened at a cubs game and pushing this towards ut fans or whatever is nonsense. Just own up and be done with it.

what do i have to own up to? i didn't do anything wrong.

i've not once said it was right, simply that everybody is guilty of this crap.

any list that doesn't have Once Brothers on it is null and void

it might be the best thing ESPN has done, ever.

The Two Escobars was the best.

It had every thing you want in a documentary.

Story you've never heard of before? Check.

A victim who was killed because of a mistake in a sport? Check.

An Al Capone type leader who was viewed as Robin Hood by the poor people in the country and being hunt down Osama bin Laden style? Check.

A soccer team that was really, really good that nobody knew about? Check.

How politics played a huge part in sports and vice versa? Check.

All of this ties in together somehow and runs perfectly? Check.

Award winning stuff in my mind.

the point is, it's not a Cubs fan problem, it's an idiot fan problem and they exist across the board.

Way to stick your head in the sand. This was an order of magnitude bigger than the usual idiot-fringe problem. It was so widespread that he's basically had to disappear and live like a ghost. Even somebody as mainstream as Wilbon was cursing Bartman on TV as recently as a couple of years ago. It's this stupid "oh woe is me, I'm so tortured, I'm a Cubs fan" mentality -- Cubs fans celebrate it just like Red Sox fans did. There always has to be a curse and a scapegoat. And so when your team gutlessly choked away a playoff game, your fans needed a scapegoat so badly that they turned on one of their own and ruined his life. It's a disgrace.

ok.

if anybody knows anything about choking, it's a Braves fan. to only win one title in 13 or so years with that pitching staff is disgraceful and pathetic.

Ok, then it's really an indictment of the Cubs. Despite what you call pathetic and disgraceful choke jobs, Braves fans didn't scapegoat one of our own and ruin his life. Way to ruin your own argument.

again, way to lump an entire fanbase into the actions of a few. i find it incredibly hard to believe every fan engaged in the behavior of those in and around the area of Bartman in the following days, months and years.

Braves fans have certainly handled failure a hell of a lot better. Lonnie Smith committed a baserunning blunder in the 7th game of the 1991 WS that flat-out cost the Braves a title, but he'd get a hand if he showed up at an old-timers' game. We've been gracious about it. Cubs fans showed their asses to the world.

Enough of them behaved that way that he's lived in hiding ever since. You don't do that if it's just a handful.

I'm sure you're a fine person

Eh, Cubs fans actually revel in it, especially the ones who didn't grow up in Chicago and just picked the Cubs to root for out of the catalog. The "anti-bandwaggoners," you might called them. They root for the Cubs because they like borrowing someone else's angst, just like all the anti-bandwaggoning Red Sox fans used to do. They want the drama.

you have it on the record that every single, let me say that again, EVERY SINGLE person in the stands that night was chanting that?

what about when Tennessee fans were chanting 'eff you Bama' several years ago while one of their players was injured on the field? i guess because it was loud enough to be heard on TV that EVERY SINGLE fan in the stands was responsible.

Fine. 39K.

And I honestly don't know what you are talking about.

To my knowledge the only to people that said he did nothing wrong were the man and woman that picked up the foul ball. Everyone else however called him an *******.

This will play out like the Buckner play. Somewhere 30 yrs from now someone will still be pissed because Bartman cost them a World Series. When in fact, the cubs cost the cubs anyway you look at it.
