And you'll still be behind just about every team not named Candy in recruiting. And LMAO at the Taxslayer comment. KY Jelly would've given their left nut to make a bowl. People with half a brain know it isn't about the win. They see that most of the talent on this team are freshmen and the upcoming classes are loaded. 2 5 star DT's coming in along with a 5 star DE in the next class alone. Anyone that knows anything about football knows that games are won on the lines especially in the SEC.
UT has always had good recruiting, so it's not a suprise
to me you are already getting back in the top 5 of recruiting. Your instate base is 10x better than anything UK has ever had. Your AD has given so much to the football program, unlike how the AD at UK has neglected football until the last couple years. 25th-ish in the nation for UK is good. I wont call it impressive, but it definitely is an improvement. Rich Brooks didn't rack in elite talent, but he found ways to win 7 or 8 games a year. I think Stoops can do the same with time.
As for the TaxSlayer comment, yes, any UK fan would gladly take that bowl in a heartbeat. I do think the talk of championships are too early. UT overachieved this year. Teams should be more prepared for Dobbs now, and it will be interesting to see how he fares in the first few big games. I anticipate an improvement, possibly East Champs, but nothing too crazy.
UT will always get talent coming in that exceeds UK's. It's inevitable. UT's program has decades of support from the school and the fans. UK is in the first few years of a total revamping. I think you saw that we have potential when guys like Harris had us in the final three with Bama and OSU. I just talked to a friend of his the other day after he announced and he said Harris wouldn't have even considered UK had it not been for Stoops being such a good coach. Fwiw.
And I could easily pick you out of a Eastern Ky hilljack coal mine. Again, count up the SEC titles. Then I'll make a little wager: UT will win another SEC title in hoops before Ky will win the SEC East in football. Hell, I'm throwing you a mulligan and not even having Ky win the SEC title. I'll wager anything you want. This ought to be good.
The whole UK football vs UT hoops debate is silly. UK football, aside from a few bright sports, has never been consistently supported or given a good chance to develop. I guess you could argue that aside from Pearl, UT hasn't done much. However, I would argue it's easier for basketball schools to win titles, because SEC is always much more top heavy in football. Basketball has been led by only a couple teams, as the majority of the SEC is unpredictable in the sport aside from UK and UF for the east. In football,UF, UT, UGA, etc have dominated the last 20 years. It's unfortunate we went through Joker's failure while UF and UT struggled, because Rich Brooks was leading us in the right direction and Joker hurt us in a lot of ways.
Teams go up and down but the trend is that there are elite teams, and a couple bottom teams like UK and Vandy. Vandy had a couple good years, and hopefully UK can emulate that success (but actually retain the coach). Maybe a better comparison would be Mizzou, who don't pull in crazy elite high school talent, but have done well to develop good players every year into some of the best in the conference.
