“@BFQuinn: Tennessee NOW PLAYING ZONE. Cuonzo Martin yelling out directions to every player on every possession. Using a 79-27 lead to test the waters.”

WOW!

“@BFQuinn: End of the 3rd quarter, Tennessee leading 104-38. Whatever the spread was, the Vols will cover.”

I know you're special, but c'mon...

Original schedule...

Game 3 - San Marino
August 12, Noon ET
Tennessee vs. Basket Club Zeta Golubovci (Montenegro)

The schedule I downloaded shows Montenegro Selezione, not Golubovci as the Vols opponent at Montecatini, Italy today. Also, the dates are flipped on opponents two and three.

This was the original schedule from Quinn a week ago, obviously he got the correct one.

I wonder if the Vols had been better off just playing teams like LMU, Carson-Newman and like instead of these sketchy euro teams

The games are just excuse for the team building and extra practices. Going to Italy is a nice plus too. If colleges could get the extra practices without going overseas, a lot of them probably would.

That's not allowed, so the answer has to be no.

You don't get to play anyone you want each year at this time. It's a once very 4 years foreign trip that allows you to have 10 extra practices, and basically 4 scrimmages against people other than yourselves. Add in a bonding experience that the team gains from this, and the answers pretty simple.

This.

Id say the vast majority would. As I've said his probably cost the university about $1 million, if not more. If they could get all the practices, and scrimmages I think most would stay on campus.

You can find team bonding activities that are much cheaper than going to Italy and would be just as valuable.

Cause going overseas is never used in recruiting.

You think it's a huge factor?

I've often wondered, but I just don't see it as one.

I'd say a track record of winning, and putting guys in the league would probably have more of an impact.

When recruiting 5-star player in the 2013 class, the Italy trip won't have an impact. But, when it gets closer to 2016, being among the schools that takes these trips cannot hurt. You never know what will help break the tie in recruiting.

I know they are not allowed, I just wonder if the competition here at the local colleges in East Tennessee are better than what they are going up against up there

I hope the final victim, I mean opponent, in Italy is more like Kaunas and less like Golubovci.

Fwiw maymons absence the first 2 gane wasn't because of his knee, it was from a sprained ankle suffered a couple weeks ago.

The trip itself, may prove educational and beneficial to the guys, but no way is this team getting better playing this level of competition. I could find much better competition on any blacktop court in any city in the US.

They get extra practices in July and August. Pretty much invaluable.
