In football, the team has "situational" drills where they might run a prevent on a 3rd or 4th down and distance. This may only get used 3-5 times per season, but it comes at a crucial moment. In basketball, you do the same thing. You may throw a 3-2 out there in a late game scenario if a team is subbing in non-athletic shooters in a late game scenario. This may not happen once, or it may happen 10 times, but working on it is invaluable even if it only comes in play once but wins a game.
CCM may feel more comfortable playing a zone if/when Armani comes in and our shortest guy is 6'4". All that length could be disruptive in a zone, or cause for blow bys in man. In short, I could definitely see why CCM would test his zone out in a meaningless blowout and work it in a few times a week just in case. Anyone know what the lineup running the zone was or if all players were involved in it?
