8 Team Playoffs

I have not watched a single bowl game (including Tennessee) since they went to the 4 team playoff system.
Just take the top 8 teams in the polls (after the conference championships) and have the playoffs. I would watch all of them.
UCF should not be in the playoffs under the current 4team format. Do you really think they would be undefeated if their 2/3 stars had to play 4/5 stars EVERY week? They would be beaten down physically after 2 or3games. As far as beating Auburn last year in a meaningless bowl game, they had weeks to prepare, had something to play for (beating a power 5 team)and the Auburn players probably could not care less about the meaningless bowl game.

So what you are saying is UCF beat Auburn, correct?

I would take the winner of each conference no matter how large or small and let them play it out. Only human element then would be seeding.

Fwiw, I still think they should have their own title. They are too far separated to be included with P5s imo.

I tend to think there are several that could be competitive in the P5 conferences. Maybe not perennial championship grade year in and year out, but competitive. Memphis, UCF, Houston and Boise for certain.

Then you leave out Bama last year? Does not account for ultrastrong divisions unfortunately.

Buddy, ESPN and the $$$ is what it’s all about. It’s entertainment, not war.

Lol zombie. All about the money! You poor materialist have lost your soul. There are more important things in the human experience than money. Then again I'm talking to someone with a faceless IG picture by a nice car as their profile picture. Clearly you are fully bought into the culture of materialism. Sad

Actually all you need to do is split out the conferences that have no chance of making the playoff undefeated. The reality is these teams have no shot so why not make a new division where they have a shot? D1a? You take winners of the top 4 conference championship games, making the championship games playoff games, and you have an 8 team playoff with little change to the current structure. Then do the same for D1a.

I have conceded the 8 game playoff. Just take the CCG format with it. With the elimination of a conference championship, we have a lot less attrition. And for the most part, these games seldom settle anything as far as who is in the playoff. 15 games still win the NC.

if you cant win your conference then you're second. This isnt upward bound and giving out participation trophies.

It isn't. It's about finding the best team. Sometimes they are in the same division. Some divisions are overpowered, so to speak. And 2nd place is merely losing 1 game and a tiebreaker. That doesn't help us find the best teams.

Shoot, 2 of the best SEC teams were in the West for quite a while until last year. Do away with the arbitrary divisions or gotta leave some spots for at-large bids. Or do what Pirate or I have suggested and do away with all questions and voting.

You talk as if I make the rules. What I’m telling you is that ESPN, the AP, the NCAA, the $$$$, are what makes the rules.

And if you want to talk “soul”...well, get out from behind the wheel of your old rusty Trailblazer and get behind the wheel of an Aston Martin. And fyi, that’s my face in the picture.

Yes sir, love sports cars. Indeed they are very soulful. No trailblazer here, TT-RS. We can agree on that much. Gbo

discussion is heating up again to expand the current 4 team college football playoffs to 8 teams and support is growing to make this happen.

is this a good or bad idea ..... whats your opinion ?
It's a horrible idea. Ask yourself this. Has there EVER been a year in college football where the 8th best team deserved to be National Champion? NEVER!!

The more teams in the playoff, the more you water down the GREATEST SPORT ON EARTH -- THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL REGULAR SEASON!!

Eight teams would likely eliminate the Conference Championship games.

It is a terrible idea. But it will happen because of MONEY!!!

I’d like to see 8 teams. It only adds one game and these guy can handle it. They’ll play more than that as pros if they go.

I hate Georgia but they have a legitimate argument to be in this year. They’d beat ND.

It’s harder to argue from the 9th spot than the 5th.

From a fans perspective it would be a better experience. Thank March madness on a smaller scale.

With all these bowl games it would be an opportunity to let more of the traditional bowls in on the rotation of the playoff games.

Right now 5/8 of the top 8 have been in playoffs recently.

Will upsets happen? Yep. Will this weaken the Bama and Clemson machines? Yep. Is that a good thing if your not a fan of them? Yep.

PS to my first post.

Keep it as is. But let's make it where #5 Georgia plays #6 Ohio State in a bowl game. And #7 Michigan against #8 UCF.

Hope they do it take the top 8 ranked teams no matter who they are and let them battle it out to see who is the best

I have been for eliminating a regular season game and going to 16 teams for a while. Either that or have a P5 championship and a G5 championship because it’s bull that a team can go undefeated in D1 football and not get a chance to play for that championship. I also believe if you can’t win your division you shouldn’t you get to call yourself national champion. All these conferences exist. They play for championships. That should matter in determining a national champion.
