8 UN employees killed as revenge for burning of Koran

So you agree he intended to cause them to do something like this? To make a broader political point?

Just because you agree with the broader political point is no reason to in any way look the other way for Jones' role in the death of 8 people.

I have no idea what his intentions were, nor do i care.

The protest was called together because of the actions of Jones. It escalated to this.

It is exactly what Jones wanted.

He should be in prison.

so once again. matt stone should be in prison too right?

The UN, for being there, is just as responsible, if not more, than Rev. Jones (which is to say that they are not really responsible).

Agree.

I'm not saying that the attackers are not to blame. They did what they did.

But you can't just pass off what Jones did as okay because of the massive overreaction HE INTENDED TO CAUSE.

No, what your saying is the focus should be on the preacher (which seems to be your objective in most cases) that made a silly decision instead of the real issue with 8 innocent people being killed.

He may very well be an idiot, if so, giving him enough credit to be that calculated is silly. Disagree with his actions if you please. Blame eight deaths on his actions, and called them calculated is plumb silly.

I don't know that Jones wanted it and I don't assume to know his thoughts, but it was stupid as hell.

200 people gathered to protest his Qu'ran burningn and it turned violent. How can you guys imply Jones doesn't deserve any accountability?

Wow.

Dodger fans don't have a history of violent irrational terrorism, and the Giants are supposed to try to win every game (I think you meant you don't blame the Giants). A preacher spreading hate is unnecessary and provocative.

You guys would probably find more fault with him had he been provoking and spreading hate about homosexuals.

The more I think about this, the more I hope that Jones is prosecuted. Not sure what he could be charged with, but I hope they can apply something to him and lock him away for a long, long time.

so, in LG's world, the IRA's Remembrance Day Bombing in Novermber 1987 can be somehow tied to Andres Serrano's Piss Christ.

Do you want people who burn flags to be prosecuted as well? How about people that **** on statues of Mary? Piss on Crucifixes?

His actions are shameful and disgusting; however, they are not and should not be criminal. By burning the Korans, he did not coerce those men to kill others.

I'm not saying what he was smart, but Its that whole freedom of speech thing, you know? Should we do away with it? They wish nothing more. Except for America to not exist, of course.

Why not go for the death penalty and make a statement. Burning books or documents that others hold dear in this country will not be tolerated.

you're a lawyer, why don't you just make something up to charge him with. I hope Jones secures Landmark Legal Foundation as representation, I'd love to see Mark Levin destroy you in proceedings.

I am not saying that at all. I don't give a damn if you have a picture of Mohomed, and that has nothing to do with this scenario. A picture is just a picture. It's not even close to the same act as burning 50 Qu'rans. Why go out of your way to publicly provoke them?

Yeah, but everybody jumped on LG for calling him an idiot, and it looks like you agree that Jones is an idiot. That's all I'm saying too. He deserves blame and criticism, but I don't think there are any grounds for prosecution of any crime. People jumped all over LG for just calling Jones an idiot in the first place.

i'm not sure the average fundamental muslim would agree that a picture is just a picture.

Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This led to Islamic protests across the Muslim world, some of which escalated into violence with instances of firing on crowds of protestors (resulting in a total of more than 100 reported deaths),[1] including setting fire to the Danish Embassies in Syria, Lebanon and Iran, storming European buildings, and burning the Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, French and German flags in Gaza City.[2][3] Various groups, primarily in the Western world, responded by endorsing the Danish policies, including "Buy Danish" campaigns and other displays of support. Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen described the controversy as Denmark's worst international crisis since World War II.[4]

Of the many April fools' threads I read today, this is far and away the most stupid.

Especially in light of the fact that the blue mosque is in Istanbul (Constantinoble.)

and a Koran is just a book

It is just a book, but burning a book has universal meaning, so no matter who you are if you are burning a book you are sending a message. A picture is just a picture to everyone, except for certain religious groups and most people could innocently offend them. There is a huge difference.
