8th in Recruiting in the SEC for 24...

Instead of everyone nitpicking star rankings of 0.0632 difference, how about remembering what a mess we were 3 years ago and building quality classes to build depth was/is most important. Then the next step can be made, and the portal allows for a new and quicker upgrade and improvement at positions of need with players that contribute immediately without needing 1-2 years of development and maturity!

I think looking at next season the offense is going to put up some points again. I think Nico will lead that team and has the WR's and RB's to make things happen. If he can get enough protection from the OL. The defense is again the worry. Will they be better? They need to be able to make some stops. We couldn't way to many times last season.

The biggest issue we have is quality depth. that is where Bama and Georgia are much better.

Our D could be better next year, but it requires people like Pili not getting a season ending injury. I think at one point our entire starting secondary was out with injuries and we were playing walk-ons. Our offense though should be great, but it relies on Nico staying healthy.

The same regular season record that Tennessee had last year .... and Tennessee does not emphasize the portal (although, it's accurate to say that their most important player in both 2021 and 2022, Hendon Hooker, came from the portal).

Georgia's record this past season? Alabama's? They both utilize the portal .... but it is not their emphasis.
Cherry picking the cream is not the same as shopping from the mix of upwardly mobile AND discontent/bad fits. Does anyone think a lot of tears were shed over the 2 guys he added from here? Do they really project to be contributors down there? Yet they are part of the winning point total.

I will wait till both signing days and portal windows are done to measure each schools TOTAL ROSTER IMPROVEMENT and NIL utilization score. Even then the value of NIL RETENTION efforts won’t be scored.

Have to remember we're still not able to take full recruiting class either... I believe we still have a few restrictions over the next couple years... That make a huge difference in final rankings.
We can take as many as we want. Only restriction is 85 or ever how many roster spots we want to carry this year.

UT’s ppg allowed the last two seasons are within a point of each other, 22.something.

The difference is ppg from the offense the last two years, which was a delta of 17ish ppg.

Thought there were some recruiting restrictions from the NCAA sanctions remaining.

nope. just a 5 year probation with 12 scholarship reduction during that 5 year period. Staff is trying to have 82 or 83 each year to use up the reductions before year 6.

Two of the teams ahead of us have a lower average recruit ranking (OU & LSU). A couple have 28 commits. And I'm sorry but I don't give a damn about that 91.99 from the other UT vs. our 91.33 😂

Yeah on the 247 composite that combines all services plus HS and the portal so far we are 11th in the country. If we beat out LSU for McKinley on jan20th we will jump to 7th nationally with just adding him at Tackle. We arent done yet either...have 5 more HS scholarships and room for portal players too...

Heres our 4 portal players.A 6ft5in Freshman AA at WR. A safety with over 100 tackles and 4 picks in 2 seasons. A freshman Corner that started every game for Oregon State and was considered for freshman AA team with 31 tackles etc...We did great so far. CJH and staff are killing it so far in the portal.

Our class was really good this year. I don’t think we finished eighth. I think we finished 6th. But you have to take the totality of the roster changes into consideration. UGA, for example, had five former 5* players and nine former 4* hit the transfer portal within a few days of one another.

We lost know one of significance. I’ll take fringe top 10 with all the needs met and a bunch of instate and high caliber kids all day.

Oh yeah, recruit rankings don’t mean anything. Pretty much Sabin and Smart are either one or two in the SEC if not the country for years now and are annually in the SEC championship game if not the NC game. So being 8th in the SEC makes sense if you’re goals are 9 or 10 wins and a bowl game. Hang a freakin’ banner, “We came in 8th and no championships on the horizon!!! Go Vols!”

no one said recruiting rankings don't mean anything. You're clearly not paying attention to the argument.

Seems like we're just treading water hoping that the swimmers way in front of us develop a cramp and go under. Ratings and evaluations aren't always right but the usual front-runners in recruiting are also the usual playoff contenders. What stings the most is seeing the guy that started our decade of disaster kill it in the portal and laughing at us.
