8th in Recruiting in the SEC for 24...

We have some good players and pieces... But compared to the rest it's not that great... Need to be top 4 year in and year out to get elite to compete with the elite
Have to remember we're still not able to take full recruiting class either... I believe we still have a few restrictions over the next couple years... That make a huge difference in final rankings.

nah the foundation is still out of high school. You still want to develop young men and develop a culture. Ole Miss is riding a wave but what they're doing isn't going to be sustainable.
Perfect situation for Kiffin to get a bigger gig in the next couple of years. Plus, he knows it's hard for Ole Miss to compete with the big boys for the best HS recruits anyway. Can't compare his situation to Heupel 's

No, he's not.

Tennessee's class of 2024 is clearly better than Ole Miss's ... by any metric. They have zero 5 star commitments. Tennessee has two of them. Ole Miss has ten 4 star commitments, Tennessee has eleven. Tennesssee has a higher player rating average as well .... Hell, if you even just want to focus on the numerical ranking? Tennessee is still higher than Ole Miss ... and Ole Miss even has one more commitment than Tennessee does.

It sounds like you also think Tyler Baron is a big loss? He's not. If he had been projected to go high in the NFL Draft, that's where he would be going .... not Oxford, Mississippi.
To be fair, Kiffin is killing it in the portal, really like what they’ve done, especially on the defensive side. They have the #1 Transfer class and they aren’t done. Princely and Lawrence are good pickups and on offense, Juice Wells is a nice addition for them.

I’m interested to see who TN adds from the portal. Would like to see a couple additions. Keeping OL is a huge plus for next year, cannot be understated how big that is for next year’s success.

Yeah. We need more 5 stars like Cam Sutton, Derek Barnett, Cedric Tillman, and Hendon Hooker.

Or maybe you meant more highly rated guys like Malachi Wideman, Morven Joseph, Len'Neth Whitehead, Jimmy Calloway, Aaron Willis, J.J Peterson, Will Ignont, Maleik Gray, etc.
Out of that first group only Barnett was actually a 5 star out of high school. A couple of them were 3 stars

It dumfounds me tho what some of these "journalists" completely miss. There's a fundamental flaw with their supposed holy grail of "average player rating" and that is because the larger your recruiting class, the lower your average will be becase the bigger the class gets the more regression to the mean there will be.

This article compares our rating with that or Oklahoma and Miami, both of whome at the writing of this article had 7-8 more recruits in their class. That's a 30% bigger class than Tennessee so their average ranking is going to be weighted down by the 7-8 lowest rated players in their class

A more fair comparison would only be to look at the 10-15 top rated players on each team. Since those 4 and 5 star players have the highest likelihood of actually seeing the field anytime soon. How does Tennessee stack up to Oklahoma and Miami if you put them on that more apples to apples basis?

I did a very quick comparison with Miami and I looked at the rating of their #1 recruit and our #1 recruit and then did 2,3,4 and so on to #10. All of their top 10 recruits were higher rated than our top 10, meaning their #1 beat our #1 and their #2 beat our #2 and so on through the ENTIRE list of top 10 recruits.

This informs me much more to the actual quality of the classes that the total average across the whole class, unless the class sizes are equal.

You may be right and not sure sustainable is the right word, I think if you luck into a great chemistry with your portal guys. you could hit the jackpot. IMO that is a longshot because a big % of these players are ME first guys then team 2nd. So, in that frame it probably will never be a consistent way to do it chemistry wise. I just heard Kiffin basically say HS recruiting is a crapshoot. He said 75% of these guys that are 4 &5 stars will leave, you bust your butt to recruit, and they will portal once or twice in college. He said it's a bad system, but he will try to work it the best he knows how. Finished by saying we are having free agency now and players jumping teams before bowl games because of the insane portal dates. Said no Pro league would ever have free agency before playoffs, he's right in that vein.

I mean at this point does class rankings really matter anymore?? By the time most of these guys are truly ready to touch the field, they are going to be doing it for a different school.
