A few thoughts after Day 1

Can you please provide some source where you saw this number? Everything I saw last year had him in the mid 180s

I am only giving this as an example: when you read the information of these athletes you can't always believe what you read. I recall when I followed the Braves they had Terry Pendleton listed at 185 lbs... if he wasn't 225-235 lbs I am the Pope. He was probably even heavier than that ha ha. I just hope whatever weight he is he comes out ready to "Ball"

Go Vols:rock:

Just a few more practices til you start hearing about all of the walk on's that are going to to be in the 2 deep and may start..

Everyone relax. Pig didn't lose 15lbs because that would put him at 170, still looks about 180-185 to me. TK at 203-205 isn't a "BIG" safety but that's good size for a young guy. Scott at 5'10-5'11 and 195 looks solid to me not sure why everyone is surprised, not like he's 180.

No comment on the TE position since we haven't started hitting. I assume the TE position will be a weapon considering what we'll have on the outside. But I just don't see why everyone is losing their minds with predictions after a helmets only practice.

GO VOLS
Just seemed like personal observations to me. Doesn't seem like anyone is losing their minds.

We have a lot of 'den mother' types on here who seem to think it's their job to tell everyone else how to behave. Never have understood that.

Love how they try to head off the. "meltdown " on here...because we're all delicate flowers. :ermm: Any true Vol fan has had WAY too much experience with disappointment the last 10 years...it's kinda condescending on their end.

I just said I don't understand something. Sorry didn't know I wasn't allowed to comment.

Saw Malone fielding punts/kickoffs. I've never liked the idea of putting a WR you're counting on in that position. I realize C Patt did it, but his talent as a return guy exceeded his talent as a WR. He's the exception. Jmo.

I personally don't think we'll see him back there. I think there are two reasons he's back there. 1. to see if he's truly so good at it that you have to put him back there. and 2. in case of injuries to starting punt returners(god forbid) find out if you can trust to put him in.

Watched all the video I could find from last night... a few things that caught my attention.

1) Transfer WR Adrian Gamble looks very fast and fluid with good hands
2) Cortez McDowell is a BIG safety
3) Vic Wharton gets to top speed in a couple of strides, caught passes & punts very well
4) Alton Howard looks to have dropped about 15 lbs from last season and is quicker
5) Derrell Scott looks much bigger than I thought he'd be and is super quick
6) Todd Kelly Jr. is a BIG safety
7) TE, whoever it is will be a weapon for us
8) WR position is stocked 10 deep, at least
9) Lane, Hurd, Scott, Paulk et al will be fine as long as OL comes together
10) Worley has added some serious zip to his arm

#10 is most exciting to see. Could have a huge impact for us on offense.

I'm big on Vic but I trust the coaches will make the right choice.

I really hope Vic earns that spot. I know he can't do the things he did in h.s., but there is no denying the vision and skills that he has with the ball in his hands. He would make it fun again.

The den mother comment wasn't aimed just at you. As I said, I see it a lot here.

It's just that, to me, telling others to relax and not to lose their minds, when they are just stating their observations, goes beyond simply responding with your own differing opinion.

But that's just my opinion. No offense intended.

I don't know why positive comments are so frowned upon. In this establishment. It's always been that way. If you support a coach, you are an 'ite or 'ander. If you are excited and talk about good news from practice, you are a pumper and predicting an undefeated season.

The vast majority understand it's the first practice and not in pads and don't need reminding as we've been watching and reading for longer than many of you have been alive.

I think some it is basic human nature. People want to be viewed as one of the smart ones who had reasonable expectations when everyone else was drinking the Kool-Aid. They want to remind you later on that they told you so. I even remember someone saying that being reasonable would somehow soften the blow of future disappointment.

As if anything could ever soften the blow of losing. I'd rather be a fan and go down giving 'em hell.

All true. The psychology of posters is an interesting study. I want to be entertained and am not afraid to be let down. It's football. If they disappoint, I'm pissed for a few minutes then over it. I'm not going to prevent myself from being excited because I'm scared of getting myfeelings hurt like a teenage girl.
But some love being negative, right and to remind you adnauseum. Picking out the negative in anything is for the weak minded. Anybody can do it.
