A few thoughts after Day 1

Love how they try to head off the. "meltdown " on here...because we're all delicate flowers. :ermm: Any true Vol fan has had WAY too much experience with disappointment the last 10 years...it's kinda condescending on their end.

Don't know 'bout y'all, I've been mad as hell for the last six years for all the right reasons. Damn it !

Saw Malone fielding punts/kickoffs. I've never liked the idea of putting a WR you're counting on in that position. I realize C Patt did it, but his talent as a return guy exceeded his talent as a WR. He's the exception. Jmo.

Now you sound like Dooley.

Worley came out loose and really throwing fast and straight, WR's will cause a lot of head aches for opponents, OL needs to grow more confident. Great feeling of excitement all around, CBJ knows he has something and is as excited really big. Haven't seen anything like it in this decade. GO VOLS

When all is said and done we heard what will make a HUGE difference with our total overall program..,TEAM SPEED...begins and ends right here. Can't teach..,can't x and o it..,..etc... You either got it or you don't.,,.been the difference in our program for several years now... Finally getting speed and CBJ and players talked about it after the first practice....of course they get it...,

I just hope we have really improved special teams play this year. Good special teams can get you one or two more wins easily.

OK, I know you can't tell very much from this video but Dobbs looked much quicker and fluid than Worley.

Willie Gualt. Peerless Price. Carl Pickins.

I don't understand why you would not want one of (if not the) your best playmakers with the ball in his hands and 15-20yds of empty space in front of him.

Are there really that many injuries from KO returns? Really?

Even so, it's not like we have no depth at WR anyway. I say get your best guy out there.

I'm saying Alton Howard was pushing 200 lbs. last season. It was obvious to many who attended practice last night that his fitness has moved to another level. I'm guessing he's more like 185 lbs. right now

As for TK Jr and Cortez McDowell, I say they are BIG safeties for the same reason you did. It's not often first-year safeties come in with that size and speed.

Derrell Scott was around 180 lbs. when he finished his HS career. Based on what I saw last night it was surprising to see how he'd bulked up since the last time I saw him play live.

I'm not losing my mind, but I see light years difference already between this year and last in early camp. CBJ and staff were teaching how to run drills this time last year. The team looks more fit, looks like they know how to practice and has energy from start to finish. Yes, it's only helmets but we couldn't say the same thing this time last year.

All this said, I'm realistic and expect a 6-win season.
I would have to agree with you. They look bigger, faster
and more athletic. I'm not a coach and I certainly don't know about the different positions but I like what I see. Hurd is as big as the linemen.

Ok so it takes 8 pages to decide if Pig was pushibg 200lbs and whether or not the OP was losing his mind over 1st practice?

One thing I noticed was Worley we consistently hitting the receivers in stride. Dobbs overthrew a couple, UT looked good as well. Whoever said we were stacked a WR wasn't kidding.
