What was Johnny's record in the SECCG?

I'm sure it would have been real difficult for Majors to go 0-2 in SEC championships games during his last 7 years. Great point.

Losing both of them would have been a hard feat to match.

You ignore Fulmer's 2-4 bowl record vs Majors 5-1 bowl record, and his 0-2 SEC championship game record. Those are as important as any games either one of them played.

Not to mention Fulmer being 1-4 vs Richt, 0-3 vs Tubberville, and 0-2 vs Saban, the 3 best coaches in the SEC during that time.

You also ignore that UT finished ranked outside the top 25, 3 of the 6 seasons. How many of Majors last seasons ended up outside the top 25? I believe 1.
i'm pretty sure Fulmer beat Saban when LSU came in to Knoxville in 01....and he's beaten TT as well...in 99.

so it's not as bad....

And, we all know what happened in 2005. In 7 seasons, 2 top 10 finishes, 2 top 15 finishes.

Majors last 7 years, '86 and '88 unranked.

Also, performance in Bowl Games is questionable. When Fulmers' teams have played in big bowl games, they have performed superbly (Michigan, A&M, FSU, OSU...Big XII North has our number.) However, it is hard to judge players performance when they are going to the Peach Bowl...you know as well as I do, they don't care about that game. Now, whether or not the players should, is up for debate.

I'm being objective here. Why is the Cotton Bowl considered a "big bowl?" It hasn't been relevant since the SWC disbanded.

Les Miles didn't have any trouble getting his team up for the Peach Bowl.

I don't believe it is considered a 'big bowl' in the hunt for the national title. However, I still believe it has a tradition an aura associated with it, and it still attracts a lot more national prestige and attention than the Peach ever will.

They might have just been happy to have been out of Louisiana for while...tough place to be in 2005.

Hell, I thought Dallas was "the place to be"! Oh, not when Tennessee is there! That's right.

Maryland and Clemson isn't exactly Miami either. ANY team could have an easier time getting up for Miami over those two.

I'll bet LSU got a lot more prestige and attention for beating Miami in Atlanta than Alabama did for beating Texas Tech in Dallas.

Maybe...speaking from personal experience though, I did not watch the Peach Bowl this past year, but I did watch the Cotton Bowl. In fact, I really did not even watch the Peach Bowl's that we played in...

I was at the K-State game. I was at no point under the delusion that I was at a major bowl. I would put it right there with the Gator Bowl against Va Tech on my list of trips.

The fact you weren't either at the game or glued to your TV set for those games means, according to OrangeSquare, you aren't a "real UT fan."

For Tennessee, the Cotton Bowl is a GREAT place to go if you know anything about the history of the game.

It's long been a New Years Day Bowl and for many years, Tennessee's own, Lindsey Nelson was the announcer and is still the man most associated with the Cotton Bowl.

For those that didn't know, Nelson was the first play-by-play announcer for the "Vol Network", afterwhich, he did the play-by-play of the Cotton Bowl for 25 seasons before moving on to Notre Dame for 13 seasons.

After his retirement from active broadcasting he moved to Knoxville, into an apartment across the Tennessee River from Neyland Stadium.

It was a good bowl, but it's definitely not what it used to be. The term "New Year's Day Bowl" doesn't mean quite what it did 15 years ago.

Beating Michigan in the Citrus Bowl is now a big bowl game? In in the 90's going to the Citrus bowl was a disappointing season now its a big bowl game.

And Majors 2 unranked seasons still compares favorably to Fulmer's 3 unranked seasons.

IMO bowl games are only questionable to you because Fulmer has tended to lose them of late, if he had won them then they would be the most important game of the season, see 1998.

LOL Fulmer hasn't had three unranked seasons....didn't you read his post? Oh wait, I guess you are ONLY using the AP poll, since that fits your agenda.

I knew all that and I still couldn't give a flip less about a second rate bowl.

It's also NEVER a disapointment to me to defeat a program with the history of Michigan, in a New Years Day Bowl, in front of a National Televised Group of College Football Fans.

Wanna take a guess who the QB of that Michigan team was?
