If we have to resort to somebody from a community college or some place called "Metro State" (which sounds like a fake college in a bad movie), then we're in worse shape than even I thought.

Money wouldn't be an issue. As cheap as Tennessee is, we would offer more than he makes now. I think the issue with Frank would be a ridiculously long term contract and he'd want more control than our AD would probably be comfortable with.

Two things you know you're going to get with Frank:

1- He's not going to be out coached
2- He won't be outworked

When I was around Lawrence back in the mid 90's at UT, he was the "do everything" guy for O'Neill. He ran his camps. He scouted. Recruited. Helped with gameplans. He's very organized.

The only question mark I could think of is that he just hasn't been the head man at a college program. I don't think that would matter but thats the one sticking point.

And the timing might be ideal. He and Jason Kidd have obviously had their issues. The Nets would love to get off the hook for his $1 million a year for "writing reports" and Frank may just be sick of the pro grind.

Someone mentioned earlier that Frank was making $1 million a year as a Nets assistant. We're paying Zo $1.3 million. We could double Frank's salary and still come away with a bargain.

I'm sorry. I don't believe Frank would be a good hire. I want someone like Pearl who has proven his mettle at the lower tier schools by winning conference and national championships and has taken a mid major to the big show. Why try to change the formula that has worked? (Like they did with the Martin hire.)

What's your objection to Shaka ? He's done a great job with inferior talent at VCU . As far as Marshall goes , we can make an offer . He may turn us down , but I would at least want to try

Larry Brown - at least for the rest of this season - maybe then UT will get in the dance --- but gotta do it now before the Zo loses to Tuscululm or whatever it is on Jan 4th

NCAA last 2 seasons.
Had a top #8 Recruiting class in 2010 when he was fired by AD Wellman for no reason.

Shaka Smart is hardly a "flavor of the week". He has been pursued by schools for three years now, and has reportedly turned down many better opportunities, including Tennessee.

Mind your own business Yankee. As a Cubs fan, what could you possibly know about what it takes to be a winner. :gun: And the only time I have seen Ohio U put up much of a fight was when the mascot attacked Brutus Buckeye when he ran on the field before their game (greatest moment in Ohio U sports history).

In 19 years of coaching, Bruce won 20+ games every year except 2 and he won 19 in one of those. Never had a losing season. He can coach.

2. Fred Hoiberg - Iowa St. lifer - not leaving.
3. Shaka Smart - this would be my first call, but didn't he just turn down the UCLA job?
4. Frank - been in NBA a long time, but he was my first choice last time around.
5. Marshall - see Miller above. That ship has sailed.
6. Buzz Williams - doesn't do much for me, but would be an upgrade over CCM.
7. Dana Altman - good HC. Not sure it would energize fanbase very much.
8. Ben Howland - this would be a very good hire IMO. I would put him higher on the list and it seems like he might actually take the job.
9. Chris Mack - ugh.
10. Rick Pitino, Jr. - not enough experience.

Yes, I admitted as much with Miller and Hoiberg. Arizona to Tennessee would be a step in the wrong direction for Miller, not a lateral move.

As for Shaka, LA is a long way from Virginia. Perhaps he'd be more receptive this time around.

Smart would definitely be worth a call and he can't plan on staying at VCU long term. He needs to strike while the iron's hot and surely UT can pay a lot more than his current school.

We can pay more, but last time we made an insulting offer. "Can pay" & "will pay" are two different things, and we have a poor history of coughing up the cash for a basketball coach. Like you, I hope this time is different.

The AD needs to understand how getting Shaka would energize this whole program. If we got Shaka, I would bet TBA would be number one in attendance Shaka's first year
