A strong FSU and 4 team playoff hurts UF

For the Gator fans, if Muschamp does get booted after this season who's on the shortlist? I went through Phil Steele's magazine and there's not a lot of obvious choices to replace him.

Gruden or bust...

Seriously, there is no home run hire waiting in the wings right now, unless an established coach from an established program decides to jump ship.

Some folks have mentioned the Fresno State coach, but he has roots out West, not the Southeast.

Personally, I hope Charlie Strong tells the big money Texas boosters to go F themselves after "only" winning 9 games with the sub-par talent Mack Brown left him with, then comes home to UF.

UF is in uncharted waters. What appears to be a lame duck coach has a gauntlet of a schedule, yet could still be fired for winning less than 8 games without a clear cut superstar coaching candidate on deck.

Our new OC better deliver the goods.

This is one of the most ridiculous threads I've ever seen.

UF has some of the best weight training facilities in the country, and the locker room and stadium are fine. The only real complaint from boosters recently is that they WANT to build an indoor practice facility, because the FANS think it's important, but Foley hasn't wanted to move on it, because frankly, he doesn't think it's that important.

Gator Speed & Strength - GatorZone.com - here is a link to the Griffin-Oakley Strength and Conditioning complex. It really is one of the better weight and conditioning training facilities in the country, and UF is always spending money on the newest tech and stuff in there. Uf spends tons of money on this stuff, and to assume they are way behind is ridiculous.

Regarding the recruiting class - UF is in on so many high profile recruits that won't commit until later in the year that it is ridiculous. Barring an epic collapse by the team this year, UF is going to get both CeCe Jefferson AND Byron Cowart (they are both on campus ALL THE TIME). If the offense has a pulse, the flips on offense are going to be ridiculous. No one is rooting harder for a gator collapse than Clemson, because if UF has an offense, they'll probably flip Ray Ray McCloud at a minimum, and maybe Cain as well. UF is in great position for Jeff Holland and Martez Ivey. Ivey has pretty much come out and said he is just waiting to see what the offense looks like. They're going to also land Tevon Coney soon, and they are in good shape for a number of good OL prospects. It wouldn't shock anyone if Roquan Smith, Joquan Johnson, and Dexter Williams (1,2, or all 3) ended up in this class.

If UF wins 8 or more games and the offense isn't a complete disaster, they will have a top 5 class, and if you can't see that, then you don't follow recruiting very closely. Even if they lose Muschamp, UF will probably still finish in the top 15.

Also to say that FSU and Miami being good dooms Florida is ridiculous. All three have been very good at times since the 80's. Every now and then, one of those 3 takes it's turn as top dog, but of the 3, Miami is in the most danger of becoming irrelevant. Definitely not Florida.

Keep living in Fantasyland, Gator. FSU has better facilities in general than Florida. I'm not saying UF will be irrelevant anytime soon, BUT they have a lot of catching up to do to get on par with their little brother.

Roper has been Cut's B$tch for at least 10 years, even when Cut came back to UT he had Roper with him.

If I were a Gator it would concern me a great deal that Roper has never called his own plays, Cut always did that.

I'm not saying Roper can't get it done, but having zero play calling experience is a handicap for a new coordinator in the SEC.

I wish him well except for that one game on Rocky Top in October.

If MSU has a big year, Mullen will definitely be on our short list.

Even if he doesn't win more than six or seven, he's still one of your best options. He was the brains behind the offense and two SEC and National Titles at UF.

I would rather have Mullen than UM anyway, Mullen is a standup guy, UM is a snake in the grass.

I don't think you realize how far they are behind the rest of the SEC in facilities. We're talking Vanderbilt (a private school) type stuff here.

I don't think they even have a long term plan in place yet either.

Two losing seasons in a row with those yucky facilities and it's panic time in Gainesville.

EDIT: Vanderbilt just opened a new indoor facility. It's even worse than I thought.

FL has one thing most of those others places will never have. Warm weather most of the year... :)

Also a lot of kids like to stay close to home and FL has a lot of kids in that area.

Let's hope Roper picked up a thing or two from Cut over the last decade.

I'm very thankful UT passed on Coach Cut after Fulmer stepped down.

It wasn't always a bed of roses for Cut in Knoxville at times..... There were fans that weren't happy with his play calling at times.

I believe Roper will be fine and needs to get FL offense ranked around 50 to help the Gators "D".

Roper been calling plays the last several years at Duke...

Almost aced: Examining Florida offensive coordinator Kurt Roper's final game at Duke - Alligator Army

"And, ultimately, while the impression from Duke's night is overwhelmingly positive, one question lingers: How much of Duke's success springs from Cutcliffe, and how much from Roper? Roper has called plays for the Blue Devils for years, and he was calling them on Tuesday night, but he's a Cutcliffe disciple about as much as any coach can be a disciple of any other, and even if the strange things Duke did against A&M were on Cutcliffe, that's the guy whose tutelage has molded Roper. Hiring Roper is taking the plumpest apple off Cutcliffe's coaching tree, but it's still likely to be viewed as taking an apple and not snipping off a branch."

That being said, the entire state is a dump. Too many people. Too hot. One season. Too flat.

UT did NOT pass on Cut, He wanted the job at UT but our old AD Hamilton angered him when they were discussing his staff. Hamilton wanted input, Cut said no way if I can't pick my own staff I will just stay at Duke, so he did and Hamilton went on to hire Dooley and tell him who he could hire.

Interesting, I don't know who wrote this but you can watch Cut call the plays on the sidelines at Duke. He has a chart in his hand and headphones on his head. Roper did run the offense, but at Cut's direction. The offense has always been Cut's baby, he's a QB guru. Roper may have suggested the plays to Cut from the booth or tell him what he is seeing from the defense but anyone that knows Cut or has watched him coach knows that's he's very involved with the offensive play calling and coaching the QB's at Duke, just as he was at Ole Miss when he was the head coach there.

Born in Hialeah Hospital and lived on both ends of the state before I ended up here in college years ago. Still visit my family all the time.

The key for the Gators you mentioned... Too many people means more kids to pick from...

And somehow this state produces a sh*t ton of D1 talent every year.

I love going back to E TN where I'm from. Born at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville and grew up in Lenoir City, but the entire state of FL isn't a dump.

The offense Duke has been running since Cut took over in Durham is different than what he has run in the past. Roper definitely was calling the plays.Duke Now - A Q&A with Duke offense coordinator Kurt Roper on the no-huddle offense | newsobserver.com blogs

So what you're saying is, UT passed on Cut.
