A strong FSU and 4 team playoff hurts UF

And somehow this state produces a sh*t ton of D1 talent every year.

I love going back to E TN where I'm from. Born at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville and grew up in Lenoir City, but the entire state of FL isn't a dump.

Different strokes...

Keep in mind that I'd rather spend a weekend in the mountains all day - every day over a weekend at the beach. I enjoy standing in a stream catching dinky trout more than catching anything from a boat. When we got to the SC mountains, having been from S FL, I took to the rural setting, differing seasons, change in topography pretty well.

Don't get me wrong. I love going back to E TN in the Fall and Winter. It is just beautiful.

You're right...I shouldn't cast away an entire state...I know there's some good in FL...it's just...I...I...hate the Gators....so.....freaking...much...

When did you grow up in LC? I grew up in Oak Ridge in the late 60's - early 70's. Man, LC has grown exponentially since I left!

I do miss the mountains, especially in the fall. Nothing like hiking in the Smokies on a crisp, sunny, fall day.

I am requesting this stay in the football forum as it does directly impact our team. Florida is in the east and we have never once in the last two decades been in the SEC East running and they not be the team who we must beat to make it in.

I personally believe that a strong FSU and Miami and going to a 4 team playoff system is really hurting them and could cause them to fall back to nothingness like they were pre-Spurrier.

For years, FSU overshadowed UF and it was only when Spurrier came along and the SEC began to have so much hype that Florida took off almost out of nowhere.

Now that the ACC is pretty much automatically in the 4 team play off and FSU has always had more swag than Florida, I think Florida is in real trouble recruiting.

They are in a three college race now for instate kids and FSU is the hot team. If UT continues to stay hot and we begin winning, I honestly think we could be their death knell.

Bama will always be Bama. Kids grow up a lot like Vol fans are are almost religious about their team. They will always be able to pull top players from the south. But UF has no real history. They had a great run but the Gator fans are very young and a lot (at least around here) are already jumping ship to the FSU team.

I honestly believe that if FSU wins the ACC again, and we make it to a bowl, and continue to gain more and more hype, that those two things combined may set Florida back for a decade and they may never be able to recoup.

Florida is here to stay. There is more than enough talent in Florida to go around. Predicting a team will fall off the map is more about you hating them than it actually being possible. The only team that I see taking a step backwards eventually is South Carolina when Spurrier leaves. The SEC has an upper tier of teams that are not going anywhere long term although their success will go through a natural rotation. For one to be good, another has to regress because there are only so many winds to go around in the conference. Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn and LSU will always be in the top tier because of the money they spend and the importance they place on their program. I think Texas A&M has probably joined that group as well because of their location and not being hampered by Texas anymore.

I guess this in reference to the OP?

Took me a sec to figure out exactly what/why you were shaking your head.

It's just absolutely ridiculous to claim Florida can't win if FSU is good or vice versa.

They played each other for a national title one season for crying out loud.

I agree. The way to beat elite teams is to be better in all aspects.

Recruiting, preparation, practice, coaching, execution, etc

Hoping for other teams to be bad so we can compete is a loser mentality and will lead to the same results we have recently become accustomed to over the past 6 yrs.

I was wondering where he was getting the "FSU has always had more swag" from.

In the 90's when Spurrier was at UF, and BB at FSU both teams were always in the top 10, and mostly in the top 5. They would routinely upset the other and spoil their mythical National Title hopes.

If UF returns to form this season it will be much more difficult for FSU to repeat their title from last season as they will have to win in the Swamp.

I'm no Gator, but it would be nice to see UF really challenge FSU this season because FSU's schedule in the ACC is so weak other than Clemson it's a cakewalk for them.

As a general rule, if FSU is right, then there are only 3 schools on the schedule that can give them a run.....

Clemson, Miami, and Florida.

From 1987 to 2000 (the string of top 5 finishes), Florida State lost 19 games. 11 were to Miami or Florida.
