A Thread For The Coaching Search Family!

I don't think so in my opinion. Yes, replacing the defensive and offensive lines will be a problem, but looking at the remainder of the SEC teams on our schedule next year?

Georgia and USCjr will both be in rebuilding mode. Chances are Franklin is going to bolt for another school (which one remains to be seen) so Vandy heads back downward. Kentucky is...well, Kentucky lol. Florida is a dumpster fire waiting to happen and Muschamp will be lucky to survive this season much less a bad start to next year. Which leaves Mizzou as the only program besides ours bringing back a lot of talent that's seen significant playing time this year.

So a run at the SEC East is well within our grasp next year.

I can partially agree. His offensive schemes have been fairly vanilla so far this year. But...

Going from the Big East (which is a substandard conference no matter what anyone in the BCS committee says or thinks) to the premier NCAA conference is not an easy task. Most of the head coaches in the conference have had significant time in the SEC as coordinators or head coaching jobs before. The notable exceptions to this are Pinkel and Sumlin and Sumlin has Manziel to thank for his success. This is not a conference that is easy on first year head coaches.

Additionally, changing from the entrenched dogma of pro style QB offense to a spread and read option will take some time and is compounded by the fact the players in position so far are ill suited for that offense. Worley is a pro style trying to adapt to the read option and didn't do it very well. Not a bad QB mind you, just not one intended for the offense that CBJ brought in.

I'm thinking as the players get recruited into positions intended for that offense as well as everyone gets on the same page of music, you will see a lot more offensive production. As well as a lot more plays that folks just don't see coming.

Pretty sure Saban at LSU didn't have our schedule lol. And as stated before, I don't think there is a coaching staff out there that could do much better than we are sitting right now. And a few that would do far worse.

I hope your right Grand Vol on the wins next year but I would rather expect the worse and be pleasantly surprised than the opposite.

I'm not really worried about the offense and I don't have a problem with it other than the lack of plays. I can understand that and I see the potential of the offense. My problem is on the defensive side of the ball. Lack of speed can't explain the players confusion and being out of position, or the blown coverages. That's really what's got me scratching my head. We're 10 games into the season and we keep making the same mistakes.

Meh, I'm a glass half full kind of guy.

I don't disagree with the lack of skill on the defensive side of the ball. I'm not sure if it's lack of talent, improper coaching, lack of depth, mistakes or combinations thereof. But I don't think anyone at Tennessee prepared for the utter speed on other teams that has been seen this year in the SEC. Somewhat rectified by the recruiting class coming in and there are some bright spots in the future with Reeves-Maybin, Sutton and Randolph if he stays (which he probably should).

Grand makes some very good and well thought out points on this staff. I even said myself before the season started that there would be some on the job training for Butch. It's been even more difficult for him considering he doesn't have a bunch of 5* talent to make the learning curve any smoother. Perhaps I have reacted emotionally out frustration towards Jancek. The SEC is not new to him and I thought that his experience in the conference might speed the learning process. This may very well be happening with the staff but results are still in the hands of the talent they have to coach. Sadly, we are light years behind most of the SEC in that area.

Want Sal back? :)

I will say Jancek is the wild card in a lot of things. He was at Georgia where he ended up getting removed from position by Richt after a single season.

Having said that, Georgia's defense isn't actually that good and really hasn't been as good as it could be/should be. Grantham is okay, but Georgia tends to win by outscoring the opponent rather than keeping them from scoring.

It's a double edged sword here. CBJ has the confidence in Jancek going back to Cincy, so he gets the benefit of the doubt for now from me.

Wow...you guys getting down to some serious discussion...All I can do is talk trash and sh** ha ha

Great post Grand, Voluntary, Steve and Doyle...maybe I join once in a while

I am reading over in the FF a lot of people posting about how we will easily beat Vandy. I hope that they are right, but this game worries the hell out of me. Say what you will, but those kids at Vandy love Franklin and will flat out play their tails off for him. Earlier in the season I said the same thing about our guys and Butch. The last couple of games it's like that has been missing. I realize the buzzsaw that this team has been through has taken its toll, but it seems more than that. I hope that I am still just experiencing Dooley hangover. Either way, if our guys don't find a way to reignite that fire they had earlier this season, the Vandy game could be a miserable one.

Good posts guys - I appreciate your thoughts and think many were spot-on.

I just listened to today's CBJ presser - he said (about Auburn game) "we didn't play well, we didn't coach well, we did nothing well..." and then went on to talk about practice yesterday and today. I say again - I have confidence in this staff. CBJ knows it wasn't just the players who let down Saturday.

PS - I just love this thread!!! :)

Vandy scares the crap out of me. If the Vols don't get up for Vandy, they will lose! They cannot afford a lackadaisical effort. If they lose to Vandy it wouldn't surprise me for them to lose to KY. They simply are not a very good road team.

I think you are spot on about the fire. It has been missing lately.

Vandy always plays Tennessee hard ... For years we we have beaten them because we had depth.... we do NOT have it any longer...it will take 60 min of hard fought game to come away with a W jmho

I am expecting to see the intensity back - if our guys bring it, I think this could be our second statement game.
