I can't think of a scenario where I'd feel comfortable having a hand in an abortion, but I don't try to hold others to my standards. Since we don't know when the inception of consciousness/life occurs, I have a hard time taking a side on principle. I have to take a pragmatic approach, and prohibition doesn't work.

so you as a small gov't kind of person are ok with laws that would limit freedoms and increase expenditures on social programs to help raise these kids? Just don't see how that can work

When it takes ripping arms off a body and a full head and the baby can be seen screaming in pain on an xray machine then chances are its murder.

You have to start somehwere or scenerios like this will continue.

Wash my hands because I don't know for sure leads to late stage abortions that are just horrid.

When is life truly life? I don't know. But it become life pretty quickly in my book once the egg is fertilized.

The scenario I brought up actually occurred in Nicaraugua. The girl was forced to have the baby. If you say that the fetus is a human life and that abortion is murder, then you would have to argue that it would always be murder unless you are choosing between the life of the mother and the "life of the fetus". You would have to say that shame or psychological damage does not justify murder ad would have to force the birth as was done in Nic.

Its kinda like drinking. I don't do it, I even think its harmful. Making it illegal is worse than keeping it legal.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

When you use that scenerio you are using it to open a door into less serious realities. It sucked for her and every other girl out there like that. But they are being used as leverage in a much bigger picture.

Can I steal because I am starving?

I meant more along the lines of child abuse and neglect laws. I'm not adamantly opposed to welfare as a policy, but in its current incarnation it can actually motivate the irresponsible to have more kids they don't know how to raise so they keep the gravy train running.

Wrong. There is a huge waiting list to adopt. My good friend just adopted a 8yr old girl. They have been waiting years. Would have been longer if they waited on a newborn.
