About that Churchill Bust

there are theories around Churchill being PM while Obama's grandfather was tortured by the Brits in Kenya. Of course that's never going to be said in public but it is a viable theory

there was- in 2009

Wow. Anything to remind people of his Kenyan ancestry, right? Is that what this whole thing is about -- trying to say that Obama hates the Brits because of some colonialist thing? That's beyond reaching. That's just made up.

But it does remind people that Obama's father was Kenyan, so you got that going for you. Well done.

So why did he send it back like a cold steak when the Brits extended the offer

Btw the reason he found it offensive is in the article I originally posted

Where does the article say that Obama found it offensive? I beg of you, show that to me.

Unless, of course, its this conjecture that Obama secretly hates the Brits because there were allegations of abuse of Kenyans and Obama has Kenyan roots.

You know, if that's what this is about, and if that is the kind of thing that passes for real political discourse in this country, I think we ought to just go ahead and hang it up at this point.

Technically it was Obama who made up the part about his grandfather being tortured by the British.

2 simple questions LG. Why did Obama return it? And would you return it?

The posted email from the WH is that it was just part of a bunch of art pieces sent back all at once because it came up on the computer or whatever they use to track these things that it was time to send them back. Why this Herculean and really quite bizarre effort to make it seem like its some kind of latent anti-Brit thing Obama has because his grandfather was Kenyan? This is really about the weakest anti-Obama thing I've seen so far in such a backasswards way to remind people that he has African roots.

Actually, you left off that he might hate it because Churchill was a Christian and Obama is a secret agent Muslim. Plus Churchill didn't get along well with the Russians at the time, and Obama being a communist and all, he sent the bust back because he's a secret agent commie.

You know, if the bust was white, that might also explain it. Since Obama is black.

Plus, the bust is of a guy with the name Winston. And Obama of course wouldn't like the name Winston since that is a town in South Carolina, where they used to lynch black people.

Also, the bust was 24 inches tall (Psssst: I am now just making stuff up). And that is bigger than Obama's penis, and that also makes him mad at the bust.

Boy, I tell you what, Obama so much hates the bust of Churchill that it caused him to risk a major international incident by sending it back. Because he's clearly offended by it.

Someone do skins a favor and delete the thread before he embarrasses himself more.

Would you return it? Or make room

What other art pieces were returned? Why return it when the Brits repeatedly said to keep it?

I find it funny that the Obama admin had to issue an apology to Krauthammer. And obviously it has your panties in a wad if your posts are getting deleted

I think the key points are (using LG logic of course)

1) sending it back was a major gaffe that offended a key ally = Obama not ready for presidency

2) 3+ years later WH Communications Director got the story completely wrong and accused press of lying about it then had to apologize = Obama not qualified for presidency.

Pretty simple really

What about the context of "that" in the statement. Haha.

Don't try to confuse it. You stated above that the reason the bust was removed was that Obama found it offensive.

That is a blatant lie.

Then, you said that the articles contained that information.

That is also a blatant lie.

So you're mad about a lie made by some inconsequential person on the internet, not a lie made by the White House.

Got it.

Yep. Not ready for prime time.

Still waiting for proof the bust was sent back because Obama was offended, as you lied earlier.

I'm waiting for your response to the unworthiness of a president who let his press team vilify Charles K for being dead right.

If VNSF lied then so did the WH

Now, normally we wouldn’t address a rumor that’s so patently false, but just this morning the Washington Post’s Charles Krauthammer repeated this ridiculous claim in his column. He said President Obama “started his Presidency by returning to the British Embassy the bust of Winston Churchill that had graced the Oval Office.”

This is 100% false. The bust still in the White House. In the Residence. Outside the Treaty Room.

1). White House guy gets it wrong, then explains why, which is that he thought CK's question was about a different piece. The WH guy owns up to the mistake, says CK can reproduce the email acknowledging it, and explains bust in question sent back as part of a group that was due to be returned.

2). Evidently, Brits offered to let it stay, but was sent back.

3). Right wing loons open speculate that Obama personally told staff to send it back because it offended him due to Brit issues with Kenyans about 70 years ago.

4). Skins repeats the rank guesswork here.

5). When questioned, skins repeats the speculation as abdolute fact, proven by the loon posting. He doesn't acknowledge the actual facts. Just days we should trust that the loon speculation is right because it's in print.

Conclusions: controversy is utterly fabricated to deflect attention from Romney's almost comical efforts to appear statesman-like. No evidence Obama even knows the thing was there, much less that he cared about it at all. But hey, it's a chance to remind people that Obama is different than us.

/thread.

dumb conclusion. Of course Obama was involved in the decision to send it back. There is no freaking way that they sent off something like that without his consent. Don't be so boneheaded in your lame attempts at making the guy out to be anything but a worthless politician.

Your repeated efforts and calling everyone racists have become embarrassing - and I don't even know you.

They claimed it was there then had to backtrack when the British Ambassador confirmed it was in his residence. They were busted. (no pun intended)

2). Evidently, Brits offered to let it stay, but was sent back.

And the Brits were offended by this move.

On three and four Skins repeated what had been in news stories. If he is wrong then he is no more lying than the WH when they vehemently denied the bust had been returned. He's going on the information he has. Of course we'll never know the truth because the WH won't tell.

/thread.

You are the one that beat the drum of Romney's gaffes. This thread contains numerous gaffes and slights which Obama committed vis a vis the UK.

The lunacy is the claim that Romney's mistakes are solid proof he's unqualified but Obama's are meaningless, manufactured outrage. (something you are quite familiar with).

In short, your double standard is showing again.

Absolutely, a stone head or a comment about the Olympics are both meaningless.

Both are being blown way out of proportion, especially if Britain getting offended over the bust was true. I understand the sentiment of them sending us the bust, but I would like to think our relationship is solid enough that something like this barely receives a "meh" for a reaction.
