ACC Championship Game: #4 FSU vs #14 Louisville (8PM EST, ABC)

You're literally in a thread about an FSU game while attempting to lie and claim you care about it less than an ETSU team that you've probably not seen play this season.

FSU is a major program that will "sell", but even if they weren't, it would "sell" because people love watching underdogs. For example the TCU team we all expected to get blown out who then later got blown out, played in both the 2nd and 3rd most watched game of the post season.

Yes, FSU is a brand that folks will be interested in and they have the underdog story of the year. They have a long history of being a top football program. There would be more folks interested in seeing them pull it off than there would be folks wanting to see Bama or Georgia AGAIN.

FSU, being good, like Tennessee being good, is GOOD for college football.

I'll probably be routing for Washington because (1) New face in the playoffs and (2) Ending of the PAC era.

The CFP is like the Super Bowl, probably a lot of casual football fans that will turn in once a year. They are NOT like us who may watch and keep track of how other teams are doing. I did not watch the games last year. I was driving back from the Orange Bowl when the semifinals were being played and my attention had already turned to basketball when the championship game was played so I did not watch that either.

Yet I do watch a lot of football during the season. I believe for the most part, most of the folks that watch are fans of the teams that are playing. There are then casual fans who may or may not watch. To me the matches that are between two teams that have never played are more exciting than the repeats from the regular season. I don't get enthused with the same old teams each year.
I'll agree that some viewers are baked in because it's a championship but I think also many will look at the odds, read an article or two, then think "This is going to be a massacre" and when it is, skip to some other channel or activity.

Nobody wants to watch lopsided football EXCEPT hardcore football people. Casual folks will go elsewhere.

What works is to sell a product and games that are competitive.

First time watching Iowa this year, huh? In week 7, Missouri’s punter had more passing yards than Iowa’s QB.

It’s more like they’re incapable of passing the ball down field.
Yes, I stopped watching Kirks kids about 7/8 years ago...I just can't stay awake

I honestly love it. They’re playing in the 1980s and still winning 10 games

TCU was a complete outlier from the norm and I'm sure you recall people saying they'd not have a chance. They DID win a 1-in-a-100 game over Michigan.

GA beat them like a high school team.
Want to believe that tcu bribed their way into the playoffs last season, just so it all makes sense.

I can agree that MORE good teams are better for college football and what does FSU want to do?

Get the heck out of the ACC ASAP. Where would they like to go? The SEC, most likely, but they'd also go to the B1G.

Wonder why? Revenue.

You really think casual fans do this. Trust me most don't. I have a lot of casual football fans in my family. They have no clue what is happening outside of how Tennessee is doing and don't care. They will tune in for a good story though. Case in point ...Colorado. Some in my family were watching due to the story.

It is up to those that market the CFP to sell the story - if they can't sell the PAC demise with Washington and the hard luck story of FSU, then they need to be replaced.

This game is pitiful. I hate it for the FSU defense, but FSU doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs.

Colorado FADED fast in viewership after they started losing and losing badly. As the kids say, Ain't nobody got time for that.

Colorado and the early story was fun. It didn't sustain itself because the football wasn't that good.

In the end, good quality, entertaining games sell.

The business is selling. It's easier to sell brands that are known and respected in the long run over newcomers.

I was pulling for FSU earlier in the season but honestly if they don't get in I will not miss that tired war chant.
They need big foam hammers like the Braves. 🤣

Also, Washington can play football at a pretty high level. I'd watch WA vs MI or TX, happily.

I'd watch them boat race FSU with less interest.

Michigan brings a lot of eyeballs to the tv screen, but Michigan vs a undermanned FSU team won’t bring the casual viewer IMO. Michigan vs Bama or Texas would put up a monster #.

6 of the last 9 college championship games have been very one sided including the last 5. Of the semi-finals, 12 of 18 have been one-sided.

We all need to stop pretending these are good games, because 67% of the time, they are not competitive.

It is all about selling something special about the team and the game.

What’s more insane is after seeing that for years people thought “let’s see what teams 5 through 12 can do if we put them in”

FSU had a chance to get in the sec and chose the ACC

The thought is probably with more teams, maybe they can generate the March Madness for football, but it won't happen.
