ACC imploding???

If the beloved ACC implodes, which two schools would you most likely like to see join the SEC?

Personally, if the ACC goes down I think Clemson, FSU, UNC, NC St, and VT, are good additions. Maybe add UVA or GT to make it an even number. I also think that UVA, GT, Miami, and one of Pitt/Syracuse/BC go to big ten

SEC network is already in NC, and VA, and on the basic sports tier of every ACC state if you have a cable provider and added the basic sports tier. It's on every major streaming provider and available in every state in the country. Market expansion has or shortly will saturate.

Now it's all product. If the ballgames are terrible because the teams (despite population) are terrible then nobody gonna watch that crap anyway.

Living in the RDU, these fans are like KY fans. They care about football until the first loss or until bball practice starts - whichever comes first.

TLDR, I don't want to add more teams, but they better bring good games with them. Not good enough to beat us but some kind of actual football fanbase.

Veto FSU. Too close to UF and share tv markets.

Miami is iffy. On the one hand one could make the argument that its so culturally different that it would add viewership to the SEC. By the same token, it might cause even less interest in Miami football by the locals (if that were even possible) than there already is. Remember, they are splitting the sports fan dollar with the Dolphins, the Marlins, the Heat, soccer with Messi, and the Panthers.

When I was at UF Miami sports was pretty much the 'canes and the Dolphins. As I recall the Marlins had just begun to exist. So UM was a major drawn for locals, even if they had no affiliation with the school (and frankly, the majority of UM fans didn't even know where the campus was located).

If you add Miami you run the risk of some seriously diluted stadium attendance, even if they are decent that year.

Have to look at other revenue sports outside of football, Duke is a HUGE basketball brand... I voted for Duke and Carolina.

Coach K is gone and, with him, any relevance of dook basketball. There's zero reason to take them into the SEC. They're still riding K's coattails for a bit but it won't last long.

UNC and UVA are by far the best options for new programs and if those two are dumb enough to go to the B1G instead, NCST and VT are there to slide right into their spots.

True, but State fans care more about football than Duke and Carolina.

Not saying that at all. Nobody could confuse Missouri for Miami or NYC. I have just never thought Mizzou is a good cultural fit either for the SEC. I also have never been thrilled with aTm and now Texas/Oklahoma. Culturally, however, those teams are a better fit, imo.

NYC is coming to you whether you want it to or not. Get ready. It’s math.

VT is the best option with UNC to add 2 states to the footprint.

UVA is like Vandy imo.

At one point uva used to care about football, but it seems like they have moved on. I think they along with some other schools like Miami, Georgia Tech and Syracuse have not done a good job of representing the conference. I think their mediocrity is part of the reason why they’re in the position they’re in now . Plus their fight song is Auld Lang Syne. What? It might be cool for about half a minute hammered on New Years, but not exactly getting everyone going .

Take one basketball and one Football. Florida State and North Carolina

St. Louis is #23, and we got folks wanting to boot Mizzou.
Uninformed opinion is a way of life in here.
But market size (=potential) is one thing, and fan support (=actual) is another. #23 in having TVs turned on is one thing, but if they're all bingeing Love It Or List It on Saturdays, it's another.

How strong is the Mizzou fanbase? The Test: do they schedule weddings on Saturday in the fall?

What if said wedding is on a Tennessee bye week? Asking for a friend .

Mizzou screwed up by moving to the SEC and I think it's slowly starting to sink in with them. Their biggest rival was KU and, as someone originally from that area, I can tell you the hate is real. Mizzou vs. Arky? Who cares? The teams themselves sure don't. And they'll likely never truly compete for championships with a 62,000 seat stadium, lagging facilities, middling NIL opportunities and a fanbase that lacks the passion that rivalries provide. Much better fit for the Big 12. The Chiefs are priority 1 for most football fans in the area and it's not particularly close.

That said, there's no way Mizzou is going anywhere. We're stuck with 'em.

Mizzou and Vandi, the barnacles of the SEC. (A couple of others, too, but they’re the worst.)

You would know better than me, but I still think if it gave State an advantage in recruiting and some independence from Carolina it would be very enticing. At least to most fans.

I wouldn't mind having State in a league with EZU, Appy State, West VA, BC, Wake, Ga Tech; maybe Middle, UCF....not much travel and similar sized schools (excepting RJ Reynolds University)

I think Miami to SEC would actually boost their fanbase but not by much. Miami doesn't really seem that married to ACC as well. Remember in their heyday, the only real ACC team they played regularly was Florida State. There is something minor between them and Boston College but other than those two, they really don't have connections with anyone else.

They would love to play Florida annually though.

I’m sure they get a lump in their throat every time they deposit that annual check.
According to the Athletic the Big 12 distributed 42.6 million per school for 2021-22. The SEC distributed 49.9 million for the same time period. So certainly a difference there, but both of those numbers are going to go up significantly in the coming years. Will the Big 12 ever pay out more than the SEC? Probably not, but it'll still be a ton of money. And if I'm Mizzou I'd rather play teams like TCU, Iowa State and BYU, teams that I know I can occasionally compete against, instead of Tennessee, Bama, Georgia and the rest of the SEC gauntlet (minus Vandy of course). They're trending down for the reasons stated above, lack of a committed fanbase, mediocre facilities and lower tier NIL opportunities and they have no shot at the CFP. They're simply not an SEC caliber program. But as I said, we're stuck with them.

I understand your position but then why isn't the PAC getting a big contract? Why isn't the ACC getting SEC money if it's all subscription based?

You seriously think less people on the crowded left coast have PAC in their subscription? You think the ACC market has less folks with ESPN packages than the SEC?

Why aren't they the same then?

There is not a real "Pac" network.
Almost all people in the ACC footprint that have cable/TouTubeTV/SlingTV/Hulu+ etc pay for the ACC Network. Even if they don't want it and don't watch it. Same with SECNetwork and BigTen Network

That population difference is the reason the Big10 schools make more money than SEC schools. The Big10 also has strongly avoided adding new teams in states they already have a presence as they understand the premium TV business model. Until Texas , the SEC strictly followed this same gameplan as well. Texas needed to be added to get Oklahoma and Texas is a bit of an outlier state. Adding Miami or Florida State would not increase SEC TV money and it would especially not be possible to add both in an attempt to keep the B1G out of Florida. Adding Clemson would result in less TV money for the SEC but more money for the Big10.

Adding Missouri was a terrible idea for competitiveness but a great idea for revenue as Missouri's two major TV markets were included in for SEC Network contract consideration.

If the TV model changes, then the SEC could rush in the add FSU, Clemson, Miami, Louisville or even Memphis. But right now, the SEC member schools would lost revenue if those schools were added.

Without changes, here are the most likely expansion targets:

(1) North Carolina
(2) NC State
(3) Virginia Tech
(4) Virginia
(5) Pittsburgh
(6) Cincinnati
(7) Kansas
(8) West Virginia would crawl on hot coals on their testicles to join. VERY small market but would still get more money than Clemson.

The SEC has the power to elevate other schools to P5 status just because of their location. This would result in additional TV money and represent a hostile takeover in territory that did not want to join us. Consider?
(1) East Carolina / Charlotte
(2) Liberty / James Madison / ODU

It's all about the money, I believe any of those schools would be at least as competitive as Missouri after several seasons.

SEC would look at the TV markets imo. Right now i think they would look at VT and UNC. Maybe Miami because of the southern florida tv market but thats a big maybe. Greg Sankey is smart and he isnt gonna add teams just to add them.
