Active Players to Cooperstown

Not at all. He loved himself more than anything else. And being a huge Mantle fan, he was the villain.

He did have a huge ego that affected the team. Of course, so did Ted.

Since we talked about Mickey Cochrane, had to represent Black Mike

He's not the Duke of Flatbush. lol. But he was a man. Not a good man, but being Captain of the Yankees is like being Captain of the Rangers...it means alot.

Very much so. Speaking of that, what was your take on Tek getting that title in Boston?

I know we are talking about the old guard tonight, but Clayton Kershaw is incredible to watch pitch.

It was to sell jerseys, at the time, I guess. There wasn't one before, but I imagine Lynn or Evans would have done a good job of it. If there is a true captain now, it's the second baseman, but spare me the logo. It's not the NHL where you wear your captaincy on your sweater.

But, to answer your question, Johnny P should wear a C on his field shirt until he passes on, and there should never be another.

First we'll use Spahn
then we'll use Sain
Then an off day
followed by rain
Back will come Spahn
followed by Sain
And followed
we hope
by two days of rain.

My favorite baseball poem

I respect Tek, but I just don't think that it was something he deserved and possibly even urinated on some previous guys. Lynn and Evans being two of those.

As far as Pesky, he most certainly needs the title. That guy IS Boston.

Ditto. Really, zjc, read up on the old timers. Get that Conlon Collection from ebay, read every card. It's beautiful.

So, NYY, who is "Mr. Yankee" to most Yankee fans? Thurman, Mantle, Jeter?

I feel like I'm back in the bullpen tonight after shooting the baseball talk.

The history of baseball is as good as it gets.

Yeah, it was a product of the new age, with Gehrig38 doing his deal, and so forth. If I were to call a Captain from that time it'd have been the Carolina Kid in RF, Chris Nixon.

The history of baseball is as good as it gets.

Football might be "The men's game" and basketball might be the "kids game"

But there is absolutely nothing compared to the history of baseball. It hasn't, won't, or ever be matched.

You hear names like Bill Dickey, Bobby Doerr, Moose Skowron, and damn, they'd all rake today, as they faced Grove, Johnson, and Feller.

It's generational.

Jeter is this generation's. Thurman still tugs at the heart strings for anyone that followed the team in the 70's. But if you ask most older guy's, they will tell you Mickey was the greatest of them all.

The folks that thought of Joe D sadly don't have a voice anymore and have passed on.

The Yankees are the greatest franchise in professional sports, but it's like they don't have that once face. Ted Williams is the Boston Red Sox.

But hey, when you have 30 something HOF, it's kind of hard.

I always thought of Yogi as Mr. Yankee.
