Active Shooter at High School in Parkland, FL

That was actually a reserve police officer. Maybe we should disarm the police.

If they don't know a gun is loaded in a classroom maybe we should.

Also if a reserve officer can't handle it just think how Mr. Peters in biology will do.

He was there talking about gun safety. Teachers wouldn't have guns out during class. Part of the reason it could work is that the teachers will be like airline Marshalls. No one knows which passenger is packing.

Also, my point was you can't make a judgement based on one incident. If you did you would have to apply the same logic that because of this one incident, that all of law enforcement should not be allowed to have firearms.

Mr Peters in biology shouldn't be pulling it out to show the class.

Isn't that when you would want a loaded gun?

Cross-examining Lawyer: You sprang from cover with revolver in hand?

Rooster Cogburn: I did.

Cross-examining Lawyer: Loaded and cocked?

Rooster Cogburn: Well, if it ain't loaded and cocked, it don't shoot!

yeah let's arm teachers and the first time one shoots a student by mistake or their gun is stolen by kids we can all have a great big laugh.

You put marshals in schools who are actually trained to intercept a threat, not a home economics teacher.

Why don't we just send some armed teachers over to Syria and clean up that mess since they seem to be so reliable at squashing threatening situations.

yeah a black guy with a gun in school would last 5 seconds lol

Actually, I just Googled "teacher in a classroom" and it was one of the first ones that came up. I thought it seemed to be a good picture to use. Professional looking fellow in a classroom? Looked fine to me.

Yet, you only noticed the race...

Are you saying black guys shouldn't be teachers? Or be armed legally?

What if the teacher has the same training that the Marshals have?

Next time I want to use a picture of a teacher in a classroom, I'll just use this one:

But Mr. Peters would pull it out if there was an active shooter situation, no?

Yes. And I don’t think anyone would be *****ing if he shot the ceiling while saving their lives.

You’ve saved a lot of lives today Mr. Peters, but these bullet holes will be coming out of your paycheck. Maybe giving you a gun was a bad idea after all.

What would be the purpose of that?

Teachers teach, marshals marshal.

It is so unbelievably unrealistic to think that a civilian will act like Dirty Harry when there are people getting gunned down outside the door and if you think that it will be a deterrent how so when we aren't supposed to know who is strapped?

Veterans with extensive psych evals and clearance at schools for the sole purpose of protection. Hard to argue that logic.

How many banks with armed security get robbed vs. no security? Do you hear a lot about armored cars getting knocked off? You don’t need special ops people patrolling the school. The simple notion that people inside may be armed will stop most would be shooters. They want a target that can’t defend itself. They don’t want someone shooting back.

Yea but I doubt he would be pointing it at the ceiling and pulling the trigger and giving a firearms demonstration to the class.

Does anyone know why this guy had one in the chamber ?

Bad decision if he's just demonstrating.

Maybe he had a good reason.

Why do think teachers are so stupid and incompetent? If they're the idiots you'r making them out to be maybe they shouldn't be teaching.

I don't want a civilian acting like Dirty Harry, I'd hope an armed teacher would lock their door and only use their gun should the shooter get into their classroom.

Everyone should have the ability to defend themselves if the want.
