No, not Fedora. Fedora was on Zook's staff. Meyer wanted Dan Mullen, Strong, or Addazio..........someone who was already on staff the first time he left.

He supposedly got wind that Foley was going to get Stoops, and that's part of why he came back instead of staying retired the first time.

I'm glad I went with my gut on Gruden. There was such a small chance to begin with to land him.. stay realistic people. You won't be as disappointed if you keep that mindset.

No matter who we hire we are taking a risk, thats part of it. Franklin has proved that he can win close games (something Dooley couldnt do), he has proved that he can recruit. Vandy was ahead of us in recruiting even before we fired DD.

Our history just dosent bring in recruits anymore, yes there is still the recruits that decided back in middle school that they will play for Tennessee if offered because they grew up fans.

We need somebody thats not afraid to go after players, we need somebody that has fire, somebody that shows passion for the game. Flame away but i wouldnt be upset with this hire. Atleast we would be taking a chance on somebody that has proven he can win in the SEC as a head coach (dont care about the other teams record).

I just want to be excited about Tennessee Football again, i want Saturdays to be fun again. Ok im done, im going to get ready to watch our Mens basketball team beat #20 Georgetown on espn. GBO :rock:

I will always like Strong. his defense won us 2 national titles and a few SEC chips with Spurrier. I think he would be a good hire for you.............let's keep it real. A black head coach at a school with a huge recruting budget in the strongest football conference in America?

You want a coach whose raises the performance level of the program. Franklin has clearly shown that he can direct a program on an upwards trajectory. Isn't that what we're looking for?
Let's keep some things in perspective. There are no coaches anywhere in America who are going to take Vandy players and have them competing for the SEC East within a few years

Brian Kelly didn't go straight to ND, he won at Cincinnati first.
Urban Meyer didn't go straight to Florida, he won at Utah first.

Their teams did more than overachieve, they actually beat legitimate teams. I'm not enamored with a coach who beats the teams he's supposed to beat.

Hate him all you want just for being at Vanderbilt, but the guy is a SOLID coach. I guarantee he would have done twice as well as Dooley at UT. He got Vandy to 2 bowls in a row. Vandy had more wins that UT, Auburn, Missouri, Kentucky, and Ole Miss combined. Vandy actually has ranked recruiting classes now. They were lower than we are now when he first showed up. Plus, he's just got swag. Think of what he would do with Tennessee's resources. Flame away.

a coach with dooley's resume is never supposed to coach at Tennessee, either. we're living in bizarre times right now.

Vandy beat Tennessee this year. woopie! who didn't? flat out, we were not a competitive team this year.

It may, but it doesn't necessarily make you win more games (Croom and Joker). You need recruiting and football acumen. I admit that Franklin appears to have both but he's created enough bad blood in his 2 years at Vandy that it can't all be wiped away.
