Aeration and seeding time.

Any recommendations on where to buy zoysia sod in the Nashville area? Heck for that matter TN area, I have the trucks to go get it.

We're doing a major backyard project and I'm thinking of zoysia going back instead of the Bermuda/fescue mix we have now.

Palmers Turf Nursery in Dunlap, TN. Thats were I got mine. He is priced fair and was super nice to do business with in my experience.

He cut mine the morning I picked it up in July and every single square was beautiful.

Thanks, I'll check them out.

Good to know. I may actually give it a go. Zoysia sounds like everything I've always wanted bin a grass and more. :)

it's a great grass
I just couldn't afford to redo 1.75 acres from Bermuda to Zoysia

If I ever build another house, it will definitely be Zoysia

This seems like the best place to post this because there's a pretty good amount of knowledge in here so....

When is the ideal time, temperature wise, to put out pre-emergent on the lawn? I know it's supposed to be in the high 60's here this week, and I don't want to do it too early, but I DEFINITELY don't want to wait too long.

Anyone know of anywhere in Knoxville to buy Zoysia? When's the earliest I can put it down?

Any time is fine. Most farms won't cut it if the temp is below 35-40 degrees here though.

Not sure on farmers there though freak.

Volunteer Turf in Maryville sells it by the pallet. But i dont think they are cutting it right now, you could call and ask. Mayo's sells Zoysia seed and will order Zoysia sod for you.

plug it, or visit a friend that has some and get some strips from them ,just be sure to dig the strips sideways from there windows or decks,so they don't have to look at the bare spots and bust that up into little chunks and spread it out

i like to put it out in little triangles and when they fill in ,you have a spot to dig up and spread out,you will need to keep the small spots watered good the first year

it will take some time, don't go crazy and try to do it all at once ,pick out some spots and do them,it will take over given time

that's the el cheapo way to do it

I'm burning mine this weekend. I burn it every three years.

If you want to save money buy a small amount and cut it into small squares. Sprig it about 9in apart and it will take over by the end of summer.

your burning Zoysia, I knew you could do that with Bermuda, but didn't know it about Zoysia

I'll bite. Why do you burn it?

Debating on whether to put down a preemergent now since temps have gone up although I know they won't last.

How about all of you just stop spraying carcinogens all over the ground that will only wind up in the water we all drink and the air we all breathe. Step back from the engineered grasses that will choke out native plants. And try enjoying the natural state of things. Just askin.

What does burning it do? Help it spread or something?

Burning bermuda helps it green up faster and more evenly. It burns up the thatch and you get a little bit of weed, insect, and disease control, as well as a bit of nutrient return to the soil.

It will look like crap though. Rake, blow, drag, etc. and it'll clean up a good bit and look decent until it comes out of dormancy.
