After Hart botches this coaching hire

It kills me some are under the impression it's all Hart's fault because of "not offering enough money". Has it not occured to some that Gruden has a family involved and he asked them. The fact he hasn't coached in several years yet somehow is at the top of everyone's list ought to tell everyone something. If he's coaching it's going to be in the NFL and his choice when. This was a long shot from the beginning.

Do you believe everything Volquest throws out there? So they're telling us that Hart has known for over a month that he was going to need a coach and that Gruden was choice #1 but he never discussed money with him? If true, shame on Hart and what the hell has he been doing for the past 30 days!?

I hate to tell ya but this only day thirteen. We didn't need a coach a month ago. Only you and a bunch of other idiots thought we did. You are not in charge so what you think don't matter, just like me. They make decisions we don't. If you think you go out and start looking for a coach before you fire you're even dumber. That's not how it works. That's how the university gets in serious trouble. So just relax I think you'll find out we are going to be fine

Yeah I'm sure Fulmer would give Gruden 10 million a year and all control over every single aspect of the football operation. You obviously do not know Fulmer.

I personally don't know Coach Fulmer but I agree.
There's no way Gruden, or anyone, would be given that much control, no matter who is AD.
GO VOLS!

So we don't want to give control to a coach. But we are okay with only one person making a decision on who is going to be head coach and drive your biggest revenue source??????

I'm confused how it says will not renew contract apon completion but later said he was to receive his 475k in 1 lump for the 13 remaining months? That doesn't make sense.

I believe FSU was giving Hart a lump sum to get out immediately but the date, January 2009, may have been a typo which should been 2008. Not sure but they wanted rid of him.

I agree. Does Hart have issue with controlling the football program? I wonder if he push Dooley to hire Sunseri?

football revenue was drastically reduced while he was AD at fsu... should be all you need to know...

JMO but i think Hart doesn't want Gruden simply because he doesn't want his beloved Alabubba to get out recruited and getting beat every year by the VOLS.

V/B

That and i really think Hart has to be in control of all football stuff. If Gruden he would want some control you going to tell me that Saban is not in control at Alabama. He has more pull then the AD.

Did anyone read the last two paragraphs in the ESPN article from above?
"During Hart's tenure, success in high-revenue sports like football has dropped off while several other programs, namely men's track and women's soccer, flourished.

Hart also had mixed success with his coaching hires. Chris Gobrecht left after just one year as the women's basketball coach and her contractual situation wound up in litigation. Steve Robinson was fired after five mediocre seasons as the men's basketball coach, and the program reached postseason play only once during Hart's tenure."

Past performance is the best predictor of the future. Lets pray Hart can break the trend and hire someone who will restore the program but let's also not be surprised if he hires a lame duck coach.

I don't think Hart has put himself in a no win situation. The delusional fans have put him in a no win situation.

Hart allowed this fanbase to dive headfirst in the Gruden pool.

A simple announcement would have allowed this fanbase to know that Gruden was not a candidate or option. Instead, he let this drag on for weeks and get to the point that any hire now will be perceived as a disappointment. If anything, this has only hurt our chances of hiring a quality coach.

The Gruden talk began months back. Did you want Hart to dispell the Gruden rumors before firing Dooley?

What if there were real talks that really broke down because Gruden wants more than UT can afford even with the wallet completely open?

Would Hart have done his job if he had not tried to strike a deal?

Hart can't help what fans assume and get all jacked up about. He can't give fans a play by play while trying to work deals.

The biggest thing coming out of all this is many fans simply need to grow up and stop acting like Jr High girls.

Harts last hire was Saban

Get your facts straight. The ONLY hire (football coach) Hart has ever made was at East Carolina! Dude is a basically a virgin at doing this.. Everyone should be very afraid right now!

Fan base was diving into the Gruden pool regardless o what anyone other than Gruden would have said. Many of us posted all along that Gruden was not coming to Tennessee from the first time his name was mentioned. The biggest contributors to the Gruden pool was the media and its continued attempt to be the first to publish what turns out to be lies and unsupported speculation. The posters and fans base were/are seem to believe their dreams rather than facts.

At this point, it doesnt matter who he hires. If its anyone other than Gruden, people will want him fired. The publicity this thing has received is embarrassing. He has put himself in a no win situation.

Negative, you idiotic fans are what is embarrassing. Your Gruden or die mentality is the reason why fans don't make decisions and should never make decisions.
