Ainge Injury (Merged)

He better play. He has some things to take care of against LSU.

After beating Bama, if he can rally the troops (lame cliche i know) and pull off a huge upset (IMO) he will be a legend here. I dont think JC can get it done w/out a rushing attack.

My biggest concern is if he can plant with that right ankle. I think the line going up is a direct reflection of his injury, too.

So, is the humor on this issue because:

1) We're emotionally exhausted worrying about it
2) We think that he'll be ready to go, so we're not worried about it
3) We're not worried about it, JC will take care of us and I'm not talking about the man upstairs
4) We've officially lost it
5) 3 & 4

I read an amusing post on a Tiger board that discussed the possibility of Ainge going out and lamented, "I'd rather play them at their best...besides, we don't do so well against UT backup QB's..." :lolabove:

Going back to the 2001 SEC Championship game, the Vols don't play well against their backup QB either.

From Xtra:

Tennessee quarterback Erik Ainge, who suffered an ankle sprain in Saturday’s 31-24 victory over South Carolina, practiced on Tuesday.

He was, however, limited during drills. Backup Jonathan Crompton worked with the first team.

Am I crazy for really wishing he had gambled and thrown that deep pass at the end of the game? I know there is ALOT riding on these games (coaches jobs, players futures), but damn is there ever a time to roll the dice just to see what your made of?

You gamble in the first half when you're up by 21 points ! It was to close of a game to risk a throw by the backup QB who hasn't had time to warm up. That said, it would have been nice had he thrown it for a TD:dance2:

A little crazy to wish him to throw deep in that situation. Maybe a pass for first-down yardage.

Base jumping without a parachute would be exciting for a few seconds, that doesnt make it smart.

No not at all, they think he is good enough to be 2nd string QB at the U of T, so let him try, he is not uncapable. Why put someone in, you cant trust. If they are scared of him failing then they are not doing their job to prepare him properly.

So any update out of Knoxville on Ainge's condition? Did he practice any today? Saw Fulmer's press conference and he really didn't address his level of practice, from what I saw. Thanks for any updates.

Don't think it's a matter of trust. I don't think even if Ainge was in they would've had him throwing in that situation, though I'm sure he's trusted to do so. I too am sure Crompton was/is capable, but at that point in the game I am of the opinion the correct call was made . . . eliminate the turnover possibility as much as possible.

We could have had Dan Marino at QB and Jerry Rice at WR and it would have been a bad idea.

I'd say this is the smart thing, going ahead and getting Cromp time with the first teamers since there is a pretty good possiblity he'll play.
