AJ, Sapp, and O'Brien involved in altercation. (Rumor/Speculation)

We do serve the people by getting drunks off the road

I'm a staunch supporter of the Constitution. The problem is most people really don't know their rights and believe they have rights that aren't protected by the Constitution

One of those is the right to drink and drive

Thank you for doing your job. The more drunks off the roads the better.

Well, I sure wished the drunken, doped up, and uninsured b*tch that smashed into my car a couple of weeks ago had driven through one of those police state "dui checkpoints" about five minutes prior.

Checkpoints violate the 4th amendment IMO. The cops aren't interested in arresting the uninsured drunk b*tch because it doesn't generate any revenue for the dept. They are more concerned with arresting the middle class guy who will spend a ton of money on court fees, probation, and on there crony lawyers to get out of it.

Will West started talking this week about how there had been zero incidents. Yack Yack and Yacked about it. Blame him, he jinxed it.

I think we should have more checkpoints.

So, they would have let her pass on through since there would be no money it?

It's not a constitutional right to drink and drive, but we do have the 4th amendment that prevents unwarranted search or seizure, which is what a checkpoint is. The cops are basically saying we suspect of being drunk just because your on the road. Its like Soviet Russia "SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS"

The people whining about the over zealous cops are the same ones that would b*tch if it took you guys more than three minutes to respond if they called needing you.

To be fair, response times to actual incidents would be shorter if SOME cops spent less time harassing innocent people.

Just my 2 cents after having been on both sides of this.

The police got two calls at one place, the second one was a fight. There are people on here saying there was drug use, assaults, 40 people drinking outside and somehow all this is the cops fault? I don't know what anybody did right or wrong, but the cops showing up in numbers to this type of situation is understandable.
Hope none of our guys got in trouble. Go Vols!
Well put

Its the damned if you do, damned if you don't officers deal with everyday

People get mad because we won't just knock the local drug dealers door down and arrest him

Had a person call saying that a guy was selling dope. Claimed there were tons of cars pulling in and out all times of night. Good indication that he may be selling drugs, but not enough proof to do anything but investigate the claims. I took the info I was given. Next day, person calls again wanting me to come by. This time they were upset and wanted to know why I didn't do my job. I asked them "what did they expect me to do?"

"Kick in their door and arrest them"

I then went into the explanation of probable cause, 4th Amendment Rights, etc

"Just excuses why you dont want to do your job"

I calmly gave them a scenario

" What if someone called us and stated you were selling drugs? Should we just come crashing through your door and take you to jail without probable cause and violate your rights?"

They said "But I'm not the one selling drugs"

People just don't get it

I don't drink and drive, run drugs, or carry illegal weapons, so I have no problem with checkpoints or "showing my papers".

Not how checkpoints work

First, people are warned about checkpoints, so they can avoid them if they want

Two, when you sign for your license to drive( which is a privilege not a right) you agree to provide proof that you are licensed to operate said vehicle

Three, if you show us your license and no other reason to detain, then you are free to go.

Would you just like us to not do anything?

This isn't about DUI, it is about a mindset of over zealous police and their response to what would normally be dismissed. Someone mentioned improper technique as to why AJ was handcuffed and I guess taken away. Count can or do you care to explain? Listen I have respect for police in general, but giving them carte blanche is ridiculous. Just this week we had police arresting a fire fighter during a car wreck, I'll let you explain that one. Again over reaction is prevalent.

I would like for cops to protect and serve. Not shake people down. Anyways GBO at least we all can agree on that.

I have no problem as I have a carry permit and one drink would cost me that permit. I like my protection better than alcohol. My drinking is at home with no plans to drive. I'd rather see a cop stopping and checking
:gun: than asleep in a parking lot.
