Hopefully, the Fulmer Cup will take up residence in Athens
Started as the Fulmer Cup, then became the Meyer Cup, headed towards being the Kirby Cup.

But the NCAA won't do a damn thing. Doesn't matter that the inmates are running the asylum. They're a cash cow right now, the Golden Calf, and as such will be immune from the NCAA.

Who's accused the AJC of being a UGA paper? I wasn't aware they had a reputation for that.

ATL is definitely a Dawg town, but it's also a large, somewhat cosmopolitan city and there are fans of a ton of different teams there and a ton of other stuff going on. I can't imagine why they'd see it as their duty to protect the college football team in the small town 75 miles down the road.

Yep. Lots of UT Fans & Alums In the ATL.

It is pretty amazing how all these former Bama coaches magically start cheating and covering things up when they leave Tuscaloosa, isn't it? No trace of it in T town. Not a word.

EVERYONE sings from the same hymnal in Tuscaloosa. If you learned anything from the Brandon Miller case, it’s that.

Not necessarily. The fact that there has been little to no punishment no matter the transgression says a lot.
eh, with Smart winning back to back Championships that won't matter. Just like Meyer, while he won, no one really cared. once he started slipping things started to stick. As is they will slap Kirby on the wrist, find some fall guy, the current fixer who got mentioned, and then move on.

It will only be the AJC finding some links to higher ups that will really make a difference.

The ajc is not going to take down georgia. You can stop that right in its tracks. Georgia has one and only one university that’s in division one football play. Georgia Tech is simply a secondary school that georgia uses to get an easy win each season. Kirby owns Athens right now lock stock and barrel. He tells the Athens police to stay away from his players no matter what crime they commit or whose lives they destroy it’s win at all costs.

Too bad the A(tlanta) Journal Constitutional is full of Georgia Tech grads and isnt in Athens. Kirby's control on the cops isnt going to scare away the AJC.

Even the local, homer, sports radio teams are having to admit that salacious scandals sell, and they are giving this story air time.

The UGA pr team is going to have to prep Smart pretty well for SEC media days in a couple weeks. Plenty of other non Georgia based media types are aware of this now. And Georgia is the biggest target out there now. Back to back titles, the fatal crash, and some of the other attitude things mean there is plenty of attention on the program.

I don't see the AJC stopping. Like I said at the top, they are not a homer paper for UGA in the slightest.

The fact that the AJC is digging, and has kept digging all year, into UGA really confirms that they aren't a homer paper. You're 100% correct that people usually only start digging once the coach starts slipping, or has already left the program. Les Miles and Coach O are 2 other recent examples.

Sports is the most results-based business there is. If you are winning, you can get away with anything outside of something like a rape or murder, or being involved in a cover up of one.

Kirby learned from Saban and the rest of the Gumps. Kirby is a PERFECT fit for the trash program in Athens. Absolutely perfect. He has little to no personality, turns a blind eye to transgressions, and gets very upset at the slightest hint of disrespect.

No one outside the state of Georgia gives a rat's #$$ about that program.

And yes, I too am constantly amazed at the energy and passion that the VolDawgs in here put into defending the trash in Athens. Heck, even BamaDawg and DirtyDawg pale in comparison. :)

Is anybody really defending UGA in this thread?

I found this part particularly interesting:

"Gantt has been in contact with court officials on 82 separate legal matters involving players between 2016 and 2023 and records show a cozy relationship with local authorities."

The UGA staff legal fixer (Gantt) has been in contact with local law enforcement to deal with an incident almost once a month for the past 7 and a half years. And that's only what is on the record. How many informal conversations have occurred is anyone's guess.

I think that has some juice.
I thought the NCAA had cracked down on schools proving legal services for athletes on the grounds that the services were a financial benefit.
