'24 AL EDGE Jordan Ross (Tennessee)

Hope we land this young man but with how it's gone this year I wouldn't be surprised if he picked Auburn or Arizona. I really don't think the relationship with the coaches matter as much with the top recruits but the relationship of the player's family with money does. Oh well ...
How it has gone this year? What year do you think anyone including the top programs just get to choose who they want? All programs lose more battles than they win and it only gets more competitive when you are in it for the most coveted recruits.

I personally think it has "gone" pretty good. Class is rated around top 10 which with elite development and coaching... is more than good enough to win at a high level. Commits include a 5* WR that EVERYONE wanted, a LB prospect pursued heavily by UGA and others, the #8 QB in the country a year after signing #1, a TE everyone drooled over, a RB reputed to be the fastest in the country, three 4* OLs, a DL named Heard that the recruiting sites appear to be waking up to, another OL predicted by many to get a bump, etc.

Just look at Spillman. He was chased by USC, Michigan, UGA, and OSU. Committed to UT. So again, how has it "gone this year" that's so catastrophic?

I don't know why people expect to win every battle against the best schools. even if we have the best NIL program it doesn't mean we are going to win every recruit we want.

Even Kirby and Saban are losing guys to Auburn, so its not like we are chasing recruiting perfection by any means.

someone asked abt it in this thread so i answered, learn how to read the thread
There's a lot of garbage I skim past. Things that catch my eye are injury reports. I can see how people would want their info coming from you though.

Based on what I have heard so far, I think the timing of Ross’s planned announcement bodes well for Tennessee. The Vols have been in pretty good shape with him for a while, and I’ve thought for weeks that it would be good for them if he announced a decision before the start of his season.
I think Texas is probably Tennessee’s main competition for him at this point. But based on the early feedback I’ve gotten today, I don’t have any reason to think the timing of his announcement is anything other than good for the Vols.

AP mentioned that there may be a dark horse in this one.
He didn’t give details, but I’m guessing Auburn may make a push.
AP has been off all cycle with these 24’s so I think he’s just being cautious. He made a post earlier this week that basically said him being tricked over and over with these recruits has made the job not fun.

Good post.

I think the "board" has "buckets" on it. Before the portal you had to "fill needs" on NSD. Transfers took 2 years. If you missed a position then you were in trouble so you were better off taking a "C" level talent than having no one. I remember times when Fulmer filled critical spots with 2* guys after missing on higher level guys.

I think that's changed. Instead of a 1-20 board I think they probably have an A bucket and a B bucket based on risk/reward. If you can get someone out of the A bucket then you give them a big NIL. If you go to the B bucket then they're higher risk so they get lower NIL or have to earn it. The thing that has changed the most is that if you don't get a HS recruit to fill a spot you can take your NIL money to the portal and drop a bundle to get a proven player for a year or two.

IMO, recruiting probably looks a lot more like the NFL draft than it used to in the way "targets" are identified and prioritized. If a team doesn't get what it needs in the draft then they "trade"/portal.

Sources around Austin don’t feel strong about their position.

All that said, the buzz has been around Tennessee for a lot of the cycle. The Vols prioritized Ross early, gotten him to campus several times, he has a great relationship with the staff and he also loves the fanbase.
Maybe Alabama has made a late move here. You never discount the Crimson Tide, particularly for an in-state talent.

Seems like Tennessee is in a good spot but can’t rule out Alabama. The Vols sit at No. 11 in the 247Sports Rankings as Josh Heupel and his staff pursue a second-straight Top 10 class and the Tide are up to No. 3 after a wave of verbals.
