'24 AL EDGE Jordan Ross (Tennessee)

How it has gone this year? What year do you think anyone including the top programs just get to choose who they want? All programs lose more battles than they win and it only gets more competitive when you are in it for the most coveted recruits.

I personally think it has "gone" pretty good. Class is rated around top 10 which with elite development and coaching... is more than good enough to win at a high level. Commits include a 5* WR that EVERYONE wanted, a LB prospect pursued heavily by UGA and others, the #8 QB in the country a year after signing #1, a TE everyone drooled over, a RB reputed to be the fastest in the country, three 4* OLs, a DL named Heard that the recruiting sites appear to be waking up to, another OL predicted by many to get a bump, etc.

Just look at Spillman. He was chased by USC, Michigan, UGA, and OSU. Committed to UT. So again, how has it "gone this year" that's so catastrophic?

I too am happy with the overall recruiting this year and the future looks bright! So I am not hating on the class. What I was referring to was that we seem to be leading for a player for some time and then it changes abruptly for whatever reason.

Big fan of getting Spillman from Lipscomb Carter last year out of Smyrna. Those were wins and wins to keep in state guys as well. To say though this year is the same as normal and "you win some and you lose some" is putting your head in the sand a bit.

So I was discussing the quick abrupt changes that seem to be happening more than usual. Yes you can throw out an example of it happening each year but this year it seems to have happened more. Thanks for responding.

Texas, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, if you're going off of those four teams, I would tell you Tennessee is probably the team to beat. Now with that said there's something here that feels funny to me, having watched his recruitment the whole time. You talk to people at Texas, they don't see him going there. You talk to Alabama people, they don't see him going there. Same thing with Florida. Is there someone laying in the weeds for Jordan Ross where it comes out of left field? I don't know, we'll see.
a.price on josh and swain

I think the team AP refers to as ‘laying in the weeds’ (which he for some odd reason won’t name) is Bama. We’ll see how it plays out but I wouldn’t put it past Little Nicky to come in like this just to ensure he doesn’t end up in Kville. He truly is a snake.

AP has been off all cycle with these 24’s so I think he’s just being cautious. He made a post earlier this week that basically said him being tricked over and over with these recruits has made the job not fun.
A lot of la$t minute change$ with kids. A couple I think we’ve had the commitment vids already filmed and a kid flip. Money changes everything.

AP has been so off this cycle this really just sounds like paranoia to me. Could be wrong, but seems like all signs pointing to the hood guys and he’s acting like the boogeyman is lurking around the corner. Just odd.

AP’s 50 Cent gifs have been on point. So until I see that I’m gonna be cautiously optimistic

I could see Auburn. Just like Sylvester smith last year. Come in late and persuade a highly rated in state kid to stay home. Even if he commits to us, I could see them ultimately stealing him before signing day.

But yeah definitely seems like ap is skittish.

Sylvester Smith wanted to go to Auburn he just needed a reason. They hire Freeze and VOILA!

In regards to Auburn or some other team coming out of left field, I don’t see it. The kid just put out a commitment graphic with four teams. He commits in five days. Unless he delays his commitment, It’s going to be one of those four teams. And Tennessee is the only one that makes sense.

I hear ya and hope you are right, BUT l will hold on till it is done in fear of a shock the world ploy.

When has it ever not been that way with some recruits and particularly those being targeted by top programs? Not sure how long you've followed this but for me it has been decades now. One thing to remember is that much of what is reported even by the most reliable sources... simply isn't true. Recruits tell reporters what they want to hear all the time. They change their minds even after honestly telling someone that a particular school is favored.

To say though this year is the same as normal and "you win some and you lose some" is putting your head in the sand a bit.
Really? So it happens to every school including those at the apex of the food chain like Bama... but it is putting my head in the sand to recognize it?

Between the media and fan boards strong narratives will build. They become accepted as the truth. They may never be an accurate reflection of what a kid is thinking. So there may be no "sudden changes"... just narratives that got smashed when a kid revealed what he had decided to do.

Not that long ago the handwringing here over Warren had reached a fever pitch. All of the "momentum" was headed elsewhere- "He gone"... Opponent message boards were confident. Insiders were sure UT had lost momentum then after his public commitment we learn that he had made up his mind and been solid to UT for weeks.

Boy, I hope he picks us, but once again at the last minute we get a subtle drip drip of potential bad news following the good news. I think there may be a pattern. That said, maybe this one will break it.

Has there ever been a recruit that announces an immediate commitment, lists the teams he’s choosing from, sticks to the commitment date, and then picks a completely different team?
