'19 AL QB Taulia Tagovailoa

Why is Taulia thinking of going some place besides Alabama now ? I agree it doesn’t hamper them or Clemson or Georgia . I would realisticly say that we aren’t where they are yet .

Neither were they...til they started pulling in recruits.

Not sure why anyone would want to play QB for Nick Saban. He picked Daunte Culpepper over Drew Brees. Dude is as trash as the ACC with QBs.

Agreed but they have a head start on us pulling in elite talent .

Agreed. And someone had a head start on them once upon a time. Takes one or two epic classes and legit teaching and coaching and you’re there...we always have all the other factors.

Agree but to be fair at that time they were still working off of the philosophy of not needing a special qb just a game manager for their offense . I guess you don’t need a live qb when you just hand the ball off or dink and dunk for 10-15 yards

At that point culpepper had been the more explosive QB. Far from a game manager. Just never recovered from his knee injury.

Don’t take my posts wrong I can’t wait to be able have problems like they do . Having three 5 star qbs and trying to keep anybody else from getting any lol

There's probably a relationship in place with Pruitt and he likely sees success for UT just a bit down the road. It would stand to reason he would be intrigued with UT because of the Pruitt factor and limited competition at the present time. He probably feels confident of seeing significant playing time at UT before he would at Bama.

To respond to your second comment, it seems to me that once a team reaches the level where Bama and Clemson are today, it would be a challenge to pull the superior QB talent they do year after year. But, history shows I'm wrong as these top 5* QB are not bashful to show up in Tuscaloosa and Clemson to compete. I've always felt these 5* would gravitate to a program where they are more assured of being the man. I'm obviously wrong, though.

Very well said .. that’s also how I thought .

All I know is you don't pass on a talent like Taulia because you are worried it will make you miss on a QB in the NEXT class.

I wouldn't paint it with a broad brush either way.

Some top players only want to play for top programs that have lots of other top players. They don't fear stiff competition for playing time. They realize that will push them to get better. They may not play a lot quite as early, but feel that trade off will ultimately pay dividends.

On the other hand some top players will opt for an easier path to early playing time, even if they have to choose a program that's not as loaded with talent at other positions and less likely to be a playoff team.

Of course there are other factors that are also important in their decisions.

I've always wondered why playing time didn't trump going to a Bama or Clemson. There are other top programs that are able to compete on a championship level and the path to being the starting QB often appears to much easier. Like I said, my assumption that it's far more important appears to be wrong, at least to the extent that I would expect.

Agreed. And this new red shirt rule helps still with the playing time issue for future qbs.

It at least guarantees the opportunity for a real competition.

Two of three. Fromm was a 4*, but who's counting?:)

My bad, but what is interestung, while Fields is still an unknown as far as whether he will live up to the 5⭐ ranking, between Fromm and Eason it was Fromm who showed he came in to UGA college-ready and deserving of a 5th ⭐, while Eason didn't live up to the lofty ranking. Eason may very well turn out to be a great college QB before his career is over, but he was not ready from a maturity standpoint as a true freshman. Fronm on the other hand, as a true freshman, seemed as poised and polished as an upperclassman.

Wow

Worried about getting good recruits because they may keep us from getting good recruits.

“Too many 100’s in my wallet... can’t get more 100’s in.”

I never said I was worried at all I said we wouldnt
be able to offer early playing time as much as we do now . There’s nothing about this coaching staff and their recruiting that worries me I just made an observation .

UGA was much better though as a whole when Fromm took over versus when Eason stepped in. The oline was better, Chubb was closer to preinjury form, the receivers were better, and the defense was much better. Because of those reasons Fromm had less responsibility than Eason had. Eason had to win games instead of being a game manager. I agree with you about Fromm being a better decision maker, but that could just be because of what I listed.

I don’t think Eason wins the Notre Dame game. It required an unflappable steely mindset and that victory set the pace for their season. JMO.

I thought that move was forced on him. Looking back, if brees went to Miami with Saban, we probably aren't having to deal with him at bama right now cause he'd still be in Miami.

No. It was up to him. He had a choice of Culpepper with series knee injury or Brees with a shoulder injury but not as serious as Culpeppers knee.

I'm bitter because I was wanting Brees and by chance ended up being right in hindsight. Saban is a better version of Schiano. Dude is an ass.

Dolphin fan here...

After seeing Culpepper's briefly after he arrived in Miami, I immediately questioned the move. His limited mobility was obviously apparent and a casual fan could see he was a shell of himself. I'm not saying I anticipated Brees's future success in New Orleans, but I didn't expect much of all from Culpepper after seeing his attempted comeback as a Dolphin. As a Dolphin fan, I was wondering what the front office was seeing that I didn't.
