'19 AL QB Taulia Tagovailoa

Dolphin fan here...

After seeing Culpepper's briefly after he arrived in Miami, I immediately questioned the move. His limited mobility was obviously apparent and a casual fan could see he was a shell of himself. I'm not saying I anticipated Brees's future success in New Orleans, but I didn't expect much of all from Culpepper after seeing his attempted comeback as a Dolphin. As a Dolphin fan, I was wondering what the front office was seeing that I didn't.

I knew someone that worked within the office. It was a saban call. He viewed a knee injury as less impactful than the shoulder injury that Brees had. Fair assumption on the outside but only if Culpepper was Peyton Manning between the ears. He was not.

Not sure why anyone would want to play QB for Nick Saban. He picked Daunte Culpepper over Drew Brees. Dude is as trash as the ACC with QBs.

Maybe because they want to win national and conference championships. Just about every QB he's had outside of Hurts, Parker Wilson and Sims has won a title. He didn't pick Culpepper over Brees. Was duly noted that he wanted Brees and the ownership preferred Culpepper.

You still don’t turn down elite talent this year in hopes of getting elite talent next year. Doesn’t even make sense.

Ummmm when did I ever say we should turn down any elite prospect ? I’m gonna need some proof on this one.. I’ll hang up and listen

I think the blame should be leveled against everyone in the front office, including Nick.

Report: Team leaders unanimously urged Miami Dolphins to sign Drew Brees, not Daunte Culpepper | The Daily Dolphin

I don’t think Eason wins the Notre Dame game. It required an unflappable steely mindset and that victory set the pace for their season. JMO.

That is fair to say. In a close game like that a poor decision resulting in an interception would lose you the game. I guess what I was trying to say was that yes Fromm is a better decision maker and game manager, but he also stepped into a much better situation than Eason and generally didn't have to carry the same amount of responsibility. I'm a Georgia fan so I obviously want Fromm to succeed, but I also believe he's a bit overrated. He had a great season for a frosh. I just think him being on Heisman lists and being projected as a first round pick is a bit premature.

Vol fans are as guilty as every other fanbase with the mindset of wanting their face of the program QB to be a 10 year Pro Bowler at the next level. We even have a label for it on VN...D4H’ing it. :) I don’t know what Fromm projects future wise. RIGHT NOW he’s a guy that you can win NC’s with...almost got you one last year! The closest “almost” for you since Herschel. Get Mack Brown plastered and I’ll bet he uses Major Applewhite for every second of his eligibility instead of jumping the gun with “NFL sure thing” Chris Simms.

Your original comment definitely made it sound like you were unsure if we should take Taulia because of how it may affect 2020 recruiting. I’m not the only one that thought this.

My bad, but what is interestung, while Fields is still an unknown as far as whether he will live up to the 5⭐ ranking, between Fromm and Eason it was Fromm who showed he came in to UGA college-ready and deserving of a 5th ⭐, while Eason didn't live up to the lofty ranking. Eason may very well turn out to be a great college QB before his career is over, but he was not ready from a maturity standpoint as a true freshman. Fronm on the other hand, as a true freshman, seemed as poised and polished as an upperclassman.

You were right in the maturity stand point, but talent wise, I think there was and is no difference. It fact, I still think Eason could be better. Physical talent wasn't the reason for Fromm in my opinion. Eason had more of a gun slinger mentality and took more risks. We all know Smart is a Saban protege that wants a run heavy scheme with a game manager and From was willing to do that. There were A LOT of games where Fromm threw for 12 or less passes in a game. GA's run game made Fromm look like an All-Star. Eason was forced to Throw more and take more chances his freshman year.

I was never unsure that we take Taulia . Did you read any of my other posts or just the first one and ran with it ?

I think Eason is more talented as well, but that was sort of my point that it's those intangibles the recruiting services can't always factor in. Throwing against air Eason probably beats Fromm all day long; but put a 11 guys in the other side of the ball and it is the freshman that is more mature and poised that will shine. And I watched Fromm make some decisions when the pocket did break down that Eason, and most true freshmen, don't make. And the dawgs averaged 191.5 rushing yards per game in Eason's season, so it wasn't like Eason had to carry the team by himself. He just made a lot of the mental mistakes you expect a true freshman to make. Fromm was simply more college ready.

But yeah. Eason has a cannon for an arm and was as physically gifted a QB as you will find.

Fromm also had the luxury of taking over in year two of new systems being implemented. Not saying Eason’s better or anything, but I think Eason was in a moderately more difficult situation as a freshman than Fromm
