Albany DE Jared Verse (transfer - FSU commit)

We're just ending phase 1 of the transfer portal (guys who entered before bowl games). Phase 2 is just starting and should pick up next week after the National Championship game. There will be more names pop up. Then we still have phase 3 once spring practice starts and guys either
A: don't like new coaching staffs
B: don't fit new systems
C: don't like where they are on the depth chart.
Either way, we'll have a shot at more guys that can help us.
For the first time in a long time I feel like :
A. Anyone we get will a good fit offensively or defensively.
B. Anyone we get will be developed .
C. Anyone we get will open up Heupel and Bank's playbooks.

I love the approach of this staff honestly. Everyone is mad because we aren’t already filling up with four or five transfers. However, the staff is only going after players that they feel will fit the culture, but also will be an upgrade from what we have and contribute immediately. Why take some transfers that put us no farther ahead than where we are right now and ask current players to leave to fill that spot? As has been said, there will be more transfers after the game Monday night which may help us upgrade easily, and there will be more transfers after the spring. Some of those transfers will be from teams with new coaches and they see they don’t like the fit and want to go somewhere else. I hope the staff continues to take this approach and only take players that they know will fit in the program as well as be an upgrade from what we have to make an impact.

It’s what we do in the off/portal watch season now.
I know….it cracks me up….. guy enters portal that no one had heard of before…. He becomes a must get or the season is ruined….I wanted him too but he was an FCS player so his skills may or may not translate to the next level.

Yeah he definitely isn't a given. He's probably going to be pretty good, but not groundbreakingly good.

Here's another thing that could've worked against us. It'll be easier in the ACC and that means it's easier to get drafted out of the ACC. If he goes in there and gets 8+ sacks and is all ACC he's getting drafted. Would he come here and get all SEC? Highly unlikely. His draft stock wouldn't be as high with like 4 sacks.

not sure if serious.

dude had already made his mind up on a losing ACC squad in Florida.

Texas Southern Cal UF and Georgia all offered after he took his 4. Garner kept us in it.

This is speculation at best. Rodney Garner makes good money to sign players. He’s a good coach, but is limited on SEC quality talent. We all know this. You hire coaches to sign players, and of course coach them up. This was a missed opportunity to improve a need position. He must do better. Heupel must do better. It’s that simple.

It is funny. This guy was a 2* who put up solid numbers in the 13th grade. He may be great, but it is far from a sure thing. Of course you want him, but acting like we lost the next Reggie White is a tad bit dramatic and premature.

But it's what we do. RG sux until he wins the next one, and he's amazing again.

Yeah, taking over a 3-7 dumpster fire with an NCAA cloud hanging over it, then losing 30+ transfers and only having 66 scholarship players, many of whom ended up injured, winning 7 games, finishing 3rd in the East, and going to a bowl game after breaking school offense records, then signing a top 15 class…that’s just not good enough for year 1. He really should have taken that goldmine and won the SEC and signed a top 5 class.

He’s gotta be on the hot seat, right?

The worst thing about being a Tennessee fans is the other Tennessee fans. The stupidity and relentless negativity is mind-boggling.

Because there's like 100 other things that go into the decision.

Yes. That’s the case for any school he selects or any player UT is courting. Again, an opportunity missed. Rodney Garner’s job is to sure up the DL.

The term "Big Miss" is a complete BS term. It's something you say when you're trying to throw shade at someone.

No one said anyone needs to be on the hot seat. I would argue the worst thing about ANY fanbase are name-callers who have no tolerance for difference of opinion. Even if the on-field results have been glaring for the better part of 2 decades. One could argue we lost the MCB due to NO DL PLAY. I like Josh Heupel. He needs players and losing battles like this doesn’t help.

Other than us being die hard Vol fans, why is Verse going to FSU such a terrible decision? Their program is not in great shape but neither is ours. We had one of the worst defenses in college football last year. Garner is fantastic but their DL coach is also highly respected for putting players in the NFL. They have a much better weather climate. Maybe he connected better with their players and maybe got a better NIL deal. That doesn’t mean we are not willing to put up money. We have already put up alot I’m sure to keep the players we have kept for next year. Recruiting big fish means you miss on more than you hit. Tennessee is in the early stages of a rebuild. Every loss on the field and in recruiting is not a disaster. We are not close to Bama or Georgia. We need to chill. This staff will work through the challenges and eventually get us back to competing for championships.
Great post that every person on this board should read twice and remind themselves of daily.
