Alex Jones Getting His Comeuppance

I find him to be more of a carnival act as well, but to each their own. I also loathe most of the mainstream media carnival barkers as well, but I wouldnt support doing to them what has been done to Jones. It was nothing more than political persecution, an abuse of the justice system and a miscarriage of justice.

Those claiming he made money from it are just regurgitating media talking points. They cant actually point to something he directly said or show exactly where he made all this alleged money by pushing a conspiracy only a handful of people believe.

Jones saying stupid ish is far less concerning than how the justice system was abused to go after him but people cannot put their hatred of the man (hate him all you want, I am not vouching for the mans questionable character) aside to see the bigger picture.
You're saying because his revenue stream is indirectly connected to the content, nobody can show he made $...this doesn't fly at all with anybody who understands anything about the content business. The way it works is people come in at the top of funnel to see your media. 1-2% buy what you're peddling. To grow your sales, you need content that brings in more eyeballs. Of course the content ties into sales.

So, to be clear, you didn't think Sandmann had a case against the media?

I am saying, acting like he profited off specific Sandy Hook parents is ridiculous. Go through the evidence and provide Jones direct quotes about specific families. Hell, find specific quotes where he even mentions Sandy Hook families in general being crisis actors. You will find very little. It was an almost non-existent part of his show. Very trivial.

No one was tuning in to Jones to hear about Sandy Hook crisis actors. If they were, there were other bloggers and podcasters who were pushing this issue to a much greater extent. Why weren't they sued? Because most of them are broke already because their shows suck and none of them have the reach and influence culture like Jones does. Which is the real reason he was politically prosecuted.

This is the weirdest, most unnecessarily specific framing of the case. It's like you're trying to prove certain things that don't matter. One thing matters:

- His Sandy Hook content contained lies and misinformation that led to damages against victims of this tragedy.

If you can't agree to this, then there is no reason to discuss anything with you. If you agree to this, then you accept that he is liable to some degree. Did they throw the book at him? Yes. He didn't cooperate at all. He lied about the proceedings on his show as they were happening. Why shouldn't they throw the book at him? He made a mockery of it all. What reason did he give them to not make an example of him?

Again, I can't believe anybody would waste this many tears on a lying POS. Oh no, the system rail-roaded a really bad guy?! Boo hoo.

The Sandy Hook families and The Onion just performed a great public service by shuttering that cesspool of conspiracy theories and propaganda.

So much for free speech and the 1st Amendment. The same people cheering this are the same people who are worried Trump is an authoritarian. Have to love the irony.

Defamation is not protected under the 1st Amendment. The same people defending Alex Jones are the same people cheering on Trump’s defamation suit against ABC. Have to love the irony.

😂🤣 so much comeuppance that he is Live on X right now with over 240k people watching.

Do you like the guy? He said that the parents of murdered Sandy Hook elementary school children were paid actors, who had not really lost their children. His attorneys defense of him was basically, "Nobody would believe what this guy says."

What a guy.

Ok, then I'm on board with this if you are cool with Trump (and you supporting his lawsuits as he may or may not file them) against ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, NYT, LAT, CNN, MSNBC, the DOJ..... We got a deal?

Not sure his character is what anyone here is defending. The man is entertaining. I agree his show isn’t news and shouldn’t be treated as such. But the same could be said for Joe Scarborough and a lot of host you probably like.

I don’t think any of them should be sued for billions however. Despite some of the terrible lies Scarborough has told about private citizens

You are just wrong. Free speech does not protect against defamation.

The Sandy Hook parents had a strong case for defamation. and their attorneys made it in court. Like I said, the only defense Alex Jones ever had was, "Nobody would believe him."

..... but many people in the MAGA-verse did believe him, and those parents were able to show how this became a source of persistent harassment for them.

We aren’t in total disagreement. My issue is the amount itself. I have issues with defamation. But I’ve yet to see such a massive settlement against anyone else for defamation.

Joe Scarborough on the day of the verdict in the Rittenhouse trial proclaimed that he “drove across state lines (it was established his father lived in and Kyle worked in Kenosha) and unloaded 60 rounds”.

This was after all the facts were out. This was after the videos were out. So he blatantly defamed Rittenhouse on a MSM network. On a show that is considered “news” by a far larger chunk of the public than Alex Jones.

Should Joe Scarborough pay him billions? That’s where my issue lies

I'm not discussing anything other than the conduct of Alex Jones, who is specifically named in the topic of this thread.

He was very clearly guilty of defamation and held accountable for his actions, as he should have been. He was given opportunities to apologize and make amends, before the civil trial.

It’s hard not to discuss the conduct without addressing the insanely harsh penalty for that conduct.

The above example was also very clearly guilty of defamation and never apologized.

Do you believe billions is the appropriate outcome for Morning Joe and other members of the mainstream media who have openly lied?

I couldn’t imagine a similar settlement ever occurring against the msm regardless of the level of their lies. This is the single largest defamation settlement in American history. Likely in human history

Sure it is. Posters regularly make defamatory statements on this board. News stations across the Country make defamatory statements on the regular.

Show damages, and you'll win.

Alex Jones was able to say whatever the hell he wanted for decades, and still can. He lost his business because he made victims' lives hell with ******** lies. The government did not bring criminal charges. They did not imprison him. The people brought suit. The people found him liable. He can still say whatever he wants. He still has freedom of speech.

Do you think nearly 2 billion, the largest defamation lawsuit in history, was appropriate?
