Alex Thomson - Wagner QB (Grad Transfer)

Jack Colletto, from Arizona Western, committed to Oregon State last night, so I'd assume that takes them out of the running for Thompson.. Coming down to us and Iowa State??

See, Simms praising him and his size and arm strength, with some kind of playing experience and I'm all in. Get him, Pruitt, u never know

No offense to the kid he may very well be an NFL baller but Phil Simms is a complete buffoon.

Bet on Iowa State. They have the giant killer factor and have the starting spot readily available.

Doug Williams - Grambling St.
Tony Romo - E. Illinois
Steve McNair - Alcorn St.
Joe Flacco - Delaware
Phil Simms - Morehead St.
Rich Gannon - Delaware
Kurt Warner - N. Iowa
Josh McCown - Sam Houston St.
Ryan Fitzpatrick - Harvard
Jimmy Garoppolo - E. Illinois
Carson Wentz - North Dakota St.

Just to name a few.

I understand it is not the norm, but FCS QB's who go on to have NFL careers is not as rare as one may think. There is no way to tell if Thomson has what it takes to succeed at a P5 school, but when an NFL QB coach thinks he'd make it in the NFL, seems worth the risk to me.

And again, one more time, my primary argument here was that the statement that this kid would “win at Tennessee because of his td/int ratio at Wagner College” is not exactly legit....it’s a stretch. Gotta have a little bit more to go on imo.

As far as your list, I don’t disagree. The nfl is replete with all-time greats and HOFers at all positions who played at small non-power 5 schools....for me, Jerry Rice and Walter Payton immediately come to mind.

But that’s not what was being discussed here, just the “he’ll have success at Tennessee only because of his TD/int ratio at Wagner College”.

Kempt could return and they had two other QB's get plenty of playing time.

That spot isn't necessarily open.

Define “plenty”. Same as Guarantano or even McBride? Park started the first part of the season then it was Kempt. They played the converted linebacker more than the other candidates Thomsen goes there and he starts. Kempt was and is a backup who steps up and it’s a moot point...he ain’t getting a sixth year. Thomsen’s betting on himself with this move so he’ll do his research on where he can get the playing time to cover that bet.

Wasn't aware that Park left the school so that's my bad.

Come lead ISU or come lead UT? One sounds much better than the other.

Depends on who’s saying it. He’s a northern kid, so the SEC mystique might not overcome a program that has a relatable coach. Matt Campbell is a good recruiter pitching Ames,Iowa. :hmm: Thomsen might dig the chance to beat some of those Big 12 teams.

Iowa State doesn’t have a JG either. Our starting spot isn’t cut and dry.

I don't follow ISU well enough to know what they have. I have seen enough of JG this past season to say I don't think he has the job sewed up by any stretch. He showed remarkable immaturity for a 2nd year player both before and after he became the starter. He did not demonstrate a mastery of the mental part of the game that you'd expect of a 2nd year player either. That would seem to either reflect inability, a lack of work, or both.

He has to grow up AND work his tail off. If Thomson has an NFL arm, polish, and maturity... he shouldn't be afraid of competing with JG.
