All four knew about the guns-----

Before we go there, maybe it was the Illinois plates---maybe erratic driving (They were obviously stoned)---and MAYBE, just maybe they were doing 15 over the limit in the early morning hours.

The cop had a reason to pull them over----Speeding.
If he had any other suspicions, he was right.
Lastly, how do you know that the cop wasn't black? Ah ha.

Good first points, but the last one shows a lack of knowledge about the relationship between black youth and black cops.(Probably worse than the relationship between black youth and white cops) Obviously there aren't absolutes with concern to people and their actions, but Black cops carry a Stigma in black n-hoods, and it's a mutual dislike.(In many, many cases)

The statements that none of them were visably intoxicated and the lack of a DUI charge really bear that out.

...and the statements that none of the officers could determine whether they were under the influence of marijuana contradict it completely.

how do you know that ALL FOUR knew about the gun ??????????

I was reported on WRBC Chattanooga that all knew about the guns and one of them (did not mention which one) was actually trying to unload the gun while being pulled over. Don't look good!

Valid points. I don't even particularly care if it was a DWB situation. It just fits, is all.

If anything, the universality of the DWB phenomenon just makes what they did that much stupider. If I'm a black athlete with a high enough profile that my arrest is likely to make the ESPN crawl, I'm not getting in a car without assuming that a cop is going to be looking through it every single time out. It's crappy, but you have to live in the world that exists, not the one that ought to.

Hat, I know Bruce has been somewhat mum on what he plans to do with these 4, but how do you think he's handled the situtation so far? Also, how do you think it plays out in the end?

Right Now I think CBP has handled the situation as best as anyone can. He MUST let the police and the courts do their job and then he MUST act according.

Which mean all 4 should be shown the door, regardless of who they are and how bad we will be this season without them..

Sorry, I'm all for second chances.. But this is unexcuseable.. The alcohol, drugs and firearms are just to much to look the other way..

Agreed

MikeHamiltonFan... You're a moron... They are kids... 21 or 41, riding around in a speeding car with guns, alcohol, and dope are irresponsible actions.... Juvenile actions regardless of age... They should be gone... Make an example of them... And move on... I cant believe that people want kids like this representing our university... I understand we all make mistakes.... So, let them make those mistakes on their own dime....

Something else to think about----All four probably knew about filed serial numbers too. "Are you carrying?" "You know it." "let me see that heater." "Hey man, this thing has had the serials filed down." " Yeah, cool, huh?" "Untraceable". "Loaded too." "Always."

Have you guys ever shown a kid how to shoot a gun? What about a college age man? What about a middle aged man?

Please...I had UT athletes while I was in school try to get me to buy a gun for them. They did not understand the difference between a .380 and a 38. They saw guns in movies but knew nothing about them.

The idea that they are discussing a "heater" is laughable. This is not a mickey spillane novel, it is real life.

I am not one to defend college athletes who screw up but I have had plenty of second chances in my life and a lot of this is just piling on. First, 70 in a 55 on the Interstate sounds more like a speed trap than anything else, second, while they did have alcohol in the car, evidently none of them were drunk (or high). Third, it looks like one player had some pot. The other may have known about it or may not have, but you certainly cannot tar all of them with the same brush until you know the facts. Fourth, every gun that I own is unregistered and always will be. If they weren't black, I don't think everyone would subconsciously assume they were out to do grave harm to someone. As far as that goes, I have owned, shot, and handled guns all of my life. I have several guns that I've purchased used and until this came up, it never occured to me to check the serial number to make sure that it is unaltered. It may be that these kids are all guilty of smoking pot, are all guilty of everything that is being assumed, but wait until the facts are in before you pass judgement on them.

...when you file off the SN and have open containers and weed in the car, It is a very bad thing. Its also illegal to be riding around with a loaded weapon in your car without a carrying permit and I highly doubt any of these clowns even know what that is

Everybody has their take but to me this really covers it. To be speeding, with an open container, in possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, and possessing not only a firearm without a permit BUT a firearm that has been altered in a way that merely having it is in and of itself in violation of federal law.

The cascade of sheer cranial proctology involved here is staggering.

how many people realize it's legal to have open containers in your car, in Tennessee, as long as the driver isn't drinking?

And how many realize its a travesty that MJ is illegal, much less a criminal offense?

None are felons and if the serial number was not altered there would be nothing wrong with riding around with guns. Guns are not bad...I do not understand why so many people keep acting like having guns in a car is a horrible thing.

This is the most irresponsible thread you have ever posted. Trying to support this situation that there is nothing wrong with these players having guns is beyond stupid.

is it just these players you have an issue with or would it be for all students/citizens? Just trying to figure out where you draw the line
