All four knew about the guns-----

This is the most irresponsible thread you have ever posted. Trying to support this situation that there is nothing wrong with these players having guns is beyond stupid.

He's missing the point. They weren't cited for "having guns in the car", they were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. If the weapons had been properly stored that in and of itself would never have been an issue. And THAT doesn't even bring in the altered serial number problem.

If you are an adult and are registered to carry a gun, then fine. It has nothing to do with these specific students, but any player on any team at UT or any other university. I see no way to realistically defend players with drugs and guns in their car as being appropriate behavior.

Willie Nelson chain smokes marijuana, and he's a great singer!!!

Willie is fried, man; he couldn't tell you what he did last week or last year. Furthermore, his concerts sound like a Chinese fire drill. Without Quincy Jones producing Stardust, few would even know Willie---aside from his songwriting. I know his sidekick--Jody Payne, and he is a total dopehead. Not the desired lifestyle of a 65 year old. Most intelligent folks quit the hooch before 30.

Most yes, but they're are exceptions to MOST rules though. And MJ is not bad and the stigma associated with smoking does not tell an accurate story. People misuse almost everything, this doesn't mean everything is bad. (Clearly) And the effects side by side with alcohol would surprise you. We make it illegal to drink and drive yet we sell liquor by the drink at bars that one must drive to and from?!? Silly!

Wow. That you Willie? "On the road again".

Why do you assume that somebody who advocates legalizing marijuana is a pothead? Is every state with legalized gambling, or even a lottery, run by degenerate gamblers? Was the 18th amendment repealed because the senate was jonesing to get their drink on? Are pro-choicers simply worried that they might knock up their mistress or some random chick they meet at a bar?

I think weed should be legalized and I don't touch the stuff (I've tried it several times...never liked it).

And I don't wish to hijack this thread, but the above-quoted response was exceedingly weak and needed to be called out.

One would think if you didn't like it the first time, you wouldn't need to repeat the experiment "several times". ROTF. I prefer being in control; not the alcohol or drugs.

One would think you were smart enough to tell the difference in MJ and alcohol/drugs. Although I don't blame you, it takes a while to undue all the false teachings and propaganda against a given plant. (See Ayslinger, SF Chronicle, Repeal of Prohibition, Outlaw of MJ)- not everything (as I've stated 1000 times) should be taken at face value, those who do this, get taken advantage of.=)

I am new to this message board ....but I am totally blown away by how stupid some of you sound. You do realize how drastic an action DISMISSING someone completely from the team is and what type of effect it has on the REST OF THE PLAYERS LIFE. If someone is found to haven removed serial numbers, then maybe that is justifiable dismissal.

An open ****ing container?? Drinking at age 21+? Pot--something that isnt even a misdemeanor in many major cities now?? Is it stupid? Yes...should it screw up someones life? HELL NO....you do realize what these guys put in just so you can watch a basketball game.

It amazes me that people would be wiling to just throw these people to the wolves for things most of us have done ten times over, PARTICULARLY in college.

The one poster should change his name to GeeezIamreallystupid. An open container is just that....it is not a DUI (where do you get this stuff?) and no our kids would not have ended up in prison for years.

While I would never post names, I have witnessed several players of high moral standards at UT including one that would blow your mind after watching him play Sunday, have small involvement with pot...but ebcause he is white he would never have gotten this kind of reception.

You kick people who come form nothing off of a team, they go back to nothing or worse.

I am not one to defend college athletes who screw up but I have had plenty of second chances in my life and a lot of this is just piling on. First, 70 in a 55 on the Interstate sounds more like a speed trap than anything else, second, while they did have alcohol in the car, evidently none of them were drunk (or high). Third, it looks like one player had some pot. The other may have known about it or may not have, but you certainly cannot tar all of them with the same brush until you know the facts. Fourth, every gun that I own is unregistered and always will be. If they weren't black, I don't think everyone would subconsciously assume they were out to do grave harm to someone. As far as that goes, I have owned, shot, and handled guns all of my life. I have several guns that I've purchased used and until this came up, it never occured to me to check the serial number to make sure that it is unaltered. It may be that these kids are all guilty of smoking pot, are all guilty of everything that is being assumed, but wait until the facts are in before you pass judgement on them.

Very well put...some people on here need to get off their high horse and quit treating PEOPLE as expendable items who serve nothing but to entertain you. Thank god most of us weren't held to the lynching standards that we see here

Maybe? That would be a felony. If anyone is found to have been guilty of that, dismissal should occur within 3 seconds.

READ AGAIN.....I specifically said if someone was found to have removed serial numbers that is one thing because that is pure intent. in addition many of the comments on here seem to think the alcohol and pot is just as bad for some reason

but since we stil dont know whose guns they were...the lynching mentality of kicking all four off just for firearm possession (a MISDEMEANOR) is completely harsh unless there was past history of problems with that player. It just amazes me that so many people are willing to quickly say **** it, toss them without any regard to what effects that has on the rest of a players life (much less the background of the players) is the ultimate display of both selfishness and elitist attitude....they are not only real people but real people in college.

Should they be held to a higher standard than the rest of us...to some extent

Just my opinion but I think it depends on the players history. I believe HARSH punishment would be in order if the player has no history but not complete dismissal. I have never owned a gun myself but some people are brought up in a 100% completely different environment and mindset

There is absolutely no way that we would keep a kid arrested on felony gun charges.

Thank you. I would love to see 95% of the posters on here spend a night in the Bronx without a firearm. Anyone know any history of PULASKI TN????? How about melvin's n-hood? NO, so as the recent posts have said, we should realize that these are HUMAN BEINGS, stop acting like they are our little orange robots, what if it was your kid? And even worse is that no1 would give a f*** if they didn't play on a D1 team. Whether ppl admit it or not, they don't sincerely give a flying f*** about these guys or they would show it with their posts, instead of going all "Nero" on some stufdent athletes for making some mistakes. Yes, if the facts come out then I support an appropriate punishment, whatever it may be. I think kiffin did an excellent job with the Pilot incident.

Not following what was funny. I don't like pork chops, so I don't eat them. But I tried them on several occasions.

Did the pork chops control me?

And are you really this naive?

He is a true genius. A credit to our country. What, you didn't know that illegal == immoral? The laws are always right. That's why they never get changed.

I support decriminalization and I have never smoked Pot. I just know that the war on drugs had a racist inception and that it is not something the Constitution grants the Federal government as a power at all.
