There is no hope for any decent conversation when you refer to centrist, conservative leaning posters like Hill as leftists. If you aren't lock step in line with anything and everything Trump, you hate America. Sad.
I reread volfanhill's posts, and I apparently mistook his message ... not as one more critical of the parents than as someone being critical of AOC. My mistake. I'm one of those people who never remember names well enough to peg comments to the poster, and that sometimes makes it hard to figure out someone's intentions in posts. So I'll just apologize in advance (and retrospectively) for when I get it wrong.
The thing is that there isn't usually a lot of "cross platform" conversation here or anywhere else because we as a society have pretty much fixed our views. While I may view Burger's definition of "liberal" as the correct one, and I generally lean liberal on many social issues, I also see that those more left on the political spectrum have adopted and corrupted liberalism to something far more extreme and unrecognizable. For example, I'm kinda hard headed and believe there are two sexes and they are set at birth ... if someone is confused about his/her sex that's a personal not a societal issue and doesn't entitle that person to special status or flexibility in which restroom to use.
My biggest defining issue is simply that I don't believe any faction - political, religious, ethnic, ... - has a right to define us or set the agenda for the rest of us. As I've said before forced tolerance is absolute intolerance whether it be sexual preference, a position such as medical care is a right, or the thought of reparations or rejecting "symbolism" to address the past. We are individuals and as individuals we have the absolute right to formulate and/or adopt "policy" and not have state or ideological preferences shoved down our throats ... I tend to get agitated and vocal when that happens. And as individuals we are responsible for our own well being and owed nothing more than the equal opportunity to make something of ourselves. Since most forced tolerance of and support for something comes from the progressive and socialist view (as defined by Burger) and the "bleeding heart liberal" view that I've known my entire life ... I generally lump them together and use the terms interchangeably. I apologize if that offends. I don't apologize in any respect for my stand against forced tolerance of any party line.
Oh, and one other thing. Many people here point out that some posts are too long, but it's really hard to have a conversation rather than just make points when you only accept business type abbreviated bullet type BS. Again I forget the name, but I think the poster with our last idiot AD in the avatar or whatever you call that little picture block would agree.
