Amateur Hour Continues

I agree with that, and most of the forum would as well. Let's break this down then to skin and bones.

1) Define Progress.
2) Define Proper.
3) How do we get there?
4) Who decides what is proper and what is not proper?
5) What are proper benchmarks to measure this "proper progress."

1). Any leftward movement
2). Whatever society deems
3). Moving left. Duh!
4). Once again—society
5). Each successive tick mark, moving leftward on luther’s predisposed, self-defined continuum

LOL.............80% of the posters on here are primarily and admittedly pocket book voters.
1) Movement in the correct direction. (granting women the right to vote)
2) What individuals collectively determine.
3) One way is by electing people who wish to move in the proper direction
4) Individuals, collectively.
5) Quality of life

I think you can gather from Lincoln's words that he's talking about citizens as a whole rather than a terrorist or a non-representative gathering of radicals. And for the record, I was speaking of Washington as a general in a rebel army the same as I was of Forrest as a general in a rebel army.

The issue was why this particular revolter should be honored with a state holiday. He wasn't the leader of anything, unless you count the KKK.

The difference is that past administrations hid their dirt very well with a politician costume. Donald Trump doesn't care like they did about keeping a good boy image. What you saw in the past was a facade.

Oh yeah, Trump is Mr. Authentic. He was great in his reality TV show.

There should just be a "hold my beer" cup each year between the legislatures in former Confederate states to see which one can pass the most asinine/racist/misogynist piece of legislation.

It's almost as if they think their constituencies will approve.

Or we can watch Dem governors dress in black face , while their wife’s hand out cotton to black kids , that’s always interesting .

There are monuments to civil war generals all over the country, and (from a quick search) several states have days honoring generals from their state. Some people actually celebrate or at least honor history; although revisionism and eradication of history is a popular sport these days. You see I can appreciate southern history even though one of my ancestors (directly up the paternal chain) was responsible for Grant attending West Point and another was a Lt Col in the Union Army. In fact, I know of several ancestors who fought for the Union and none who fought for the South, but I respect all who fought for both sides ... they stood for what they believed. Of course, many people can't understand that today because they judge the past by today's standards and let revisionists tell them how to think.

You just created the Nazi Party again. Good job. :). Collectivism always ends up with millions of dead bodies.

1) What is the correct direction?
2) So if a group of individuals collectively decide to slaughter millions of minorities, that's the proper direction?
3) What is proper to one group could not be proper to another. Requires a societal standard. The elected officials in 1930's decided that concentration camps were a proper direction.
4) Collectivism has worked out soo well. 100+ million dead bodies later....
5) Quality of Life skyrocketed for the German Citizens in the early 1940's.

I took this in a crazy direction because it is not up to any of us to decide what is proper and what is not proper. You basically spoke in a bunch of relativist platitudes that mean zero. No ideas, no solutions, no nothing.

The big difference is he knows that what he did was wrong, stupid, and an embarrassment and that his constituents hate it and are disappointed, whereas the repubs are doing it proudly while they are in office to the delight of their constituents.

There's that little thing of vision for the proper progression of humanity. (by the way, that's the quality I most value)

LOL

The Kennedy’s vision of humanity was them and their cronies being the masters over the masses.

You really should research the Kennedy’s, especially the old man.

I thought he denied it was him ?
And after that whole mess she gave out cotton to black kids lol

Only after you tried defending him and ignoring what she did .
LOL......He was stupid and I have no clue about the wife and the context....maybe she's also stupid.
Now about those reactions of the constituents.............that tells the story.

I live here ( probably more neighbors of mine are Dems than yours ) and except on here I’ve never heard anyone say anything about it .
