Most people consider anyone who fought for Germany in WWII to be a Nazi whether they were an official party member or not.

Over 13 million Germans were in the regular army, both volunteers and conscripts, and they fought for Nazi Germany. From 1934 on, the German military oath was sworn to Hitler himself as they pledged unconditional obedience to him.

Ask someone staring down the wrong end of a German rifle if there was any distinction made between regular soldiers or Nazi party members since both were doing Hitler's bidding.

Decent summary. Basically AOC is calling the house out for being sell outs. There are some things that the loony whack jobs are dead on about.

So the government does forgive participation in malicious organizations when the individual in question has something valuable to offer.

We had nuclear weapons ... the Russians were well on the way. Rockets promised fairly prompt delivery, and the Germans were leading the way at the end of WW2, so obviously the best way to jump ahead was use German technology. The Russians grabbed some German scientists, and we got some others. Sometimes one need (revenge, retribution, or whatever) is superseded by another (national survival); punishment was OBE (overtaken by events) ... that's life. Our judicial system does it every day ... they call it plea bargains; somebody skips the punishment that he so richly deserves so that the prosecution gets an expedient conviction and a merit badge.
